THE GOOD:Incredible graphics, story continuity, gigantic array of secrets, great replay value, frightening atmospheres, excellent musical soundtrack.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
SUMMARY:
The Silent Hill series has become famous for it's astounding detail to scaring the wits out of its players, and never has it been more true than with the third installment. Silent Hill 3 and indeed both of its predecessors have become the unquestioned Rulers of the Survival Horror Genre.
First, the graphics are unparalleled. Never have I seen such realistic character rendering. A picture of Vincent I posted on an animated character website of mine almost got my site rejected from a webring because they thought it was a real guy! The realism of it all topped with the cinematic feel makes the game that much more intense because you'll feel as if you're actually living it.
Second, the ambient noises, random sounds and background music are the best I've ever heard. Every little growl or groan in the distance will keep you on your toes, and some of the more surprising ones can make you jump. The game also comes with it's own seperate CD soundtrack chock full of great tunes that are completely enjoyable listening to by themselves.
Third, the unlockable secrets in this game are numerous, to say the least. There are bonus weapons, special attachments, multiple game modes and another fabled joke ending to find, not to mention the largest assortment of extra costumes I've ever seen in a game; a whopping 26! This makes the replay value of this game worth the money even if you've bought it brand new for around $50.
I can safely say that after Silent Hill 3 is the scariest game out there, followed closely by Fatal Frame. So if you're a big survival horror fan and love the adrenaline rush of it all, then this game needs to be in your library. You won't regret a minute of it.
