THE GOOD:Silent Hill 3 is one amazing game. First off don't even consider playing Silent Hill 3 without playing Silent Hill 1, because as any SH fan knows these games are story driven and you wouldn't understand a thing otherwise. Besides, Silent Hill 1 is great and you can go out and buy it right now for about 10 bucks!
Storyline-
The story is griping and the characters make the game what it is, a horrific psychological horror game. I can't really say much more about the story except that it's perfect in every way and it ties up all the loose ends and makes the events in Silent Hill 1 much more clear.
Graphics-
The visuals are one huge step up from Silent Hill 2, the textures are superb and the dynamic lighting is amazing. The character models will blow you away with their realistic facial expressions. Konami even did all of the cut scenes, including the final one, using the in-game engine. I think that's proof of just how amazing this game looks.
Sound-
The sound is key in all Silent Hill games and it continues to be just as excellent in this one. The sounds are what really put you on edge in this game; the addition of seeing the enemies on screen just makes it even more frightening. The background music is masterfully put together and Silent Hill 3 comes with an added bonus! The Official Silent Hill 3 Soundtrack!
Gameplay-
At first most thought the addition of a machine gun would make the game much less difficult, well it doesn't. Seeing as this has to be the most difficult Silent Hill game ever created and the fact that Machine Gun Ammo is scarce even in easy mode. The fighting is the same as any other Silent Hill being that it's not very deep and it's often times better to just run from the enemies. Some may question why I didn't give SH3 a lower score because of this, well it's because I never expected anything more of SH because it's for the most part a fear/story driven game and the fighting is still fun.
Overall-
If you're looking for some more of that deep engaging psychological horror like in past Silent Hill games expect more of the same. If you haven't played Silent Hill 1 and only played Silent Hill 2 don't even think about buying this game till you've played and beaten Silent Hill 1, trust me when I say you really will have no idea what's going on.
THE BAD:
I really did not dislike anything about this game. Maybe the bad could be that the puzzles are so amazingly difficult that some may have to break out a strategy guide, but I hardly find that a dislike.
