THE GOOD: while ace 4 had high graphic detail on your fighter, and low graphic detail on enemies of all sorts, this game has everything set to medium. also, you can save replays, and even continue the game from anywhere in the replay (cant save scores though, but still great fun!), at first glance and control handling, the game might urk you, like it did me, but after a while, this is the perfect, PERFECT, companion to Ace 4. This is 10 times more realistic than Ace's 'arcade' style control and gameplay...even if the stall warning appears a tad too often.THE BAD: I can't get enough of it. I'm playing all the time now. I think i'm gonna sue sega...i'm addicted. Oh, the other bad thing is that the heart of gameplay isnt something like an arcade mode or campaign mode. Nope, that mode in this game is really shallow, still fun, but...the heart of this game is training, and the mastery of aircraft! SUMMARY: Woohoo! Fly Helicoptors like the Longbow! Great new age and old age fighters and bombers, and you can even fly a C-1 and US-1 !!! Hell's yeah. And just between you and me, there's a *looks around for men in black, sees they are scarce*...Alien ship somewhere in the skies.
*gets a mysterious phone call from gvt. employee*
er..i'm sorry. It was just a weather balloon. I was mistaken. In no way do I mean it was an alien ship flying 6,000 feet high, moving at mach 5, at a heading of 35 degrees over the East Island area...no sir. It was a weather balloon. A really fast weather balloon.
Anyhow, great missile cam! Hellz yeah! And the missile launch sound! AUTHENTIC! And you can land virtually on any flat surface as long as you know how to! And the scramble missions...wow. These are random alerts that appear while you are browsing through game menus. You, the student pilot at the training academy, has to ensure the safety of his/her airbase, and goes into the skies to ward off potential enemies, and shoot down aggressors, if you can. -_- The detail in the flight engine of this game. You literally have to learn to stop flying like ya did in Ace Combat 4, and learn how to turn at high speeds, avoid stalls, and try not to get into a flat spin, for Pete's sake! (although flat spins are hella fun in replays) Did I mention you can save your replays? It's really cool. There's about 30 camera options, enough to label you Junior James Cameron Speilberg Lucas...well, maybe not Lucas. How aboud Wachowski? Great jet selection, from ye olde F-104j drones, to the modern Su-27 and many versions of the F-15! And the helicoptors, while the learning curve is high, are really really really cool to fly, especially in free flight through cities.
All in all, if you even remotely like flyin' games, then this game is for you. If you want something more action and blasty like, then maybe check out Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies (which is only 20 buckaroos) You'll love this game, and Ace, if you find yourself staring off into the skies in search of Airforce daily occurences...like myself. Go Sega! Reedem thyself!
