THE GOOD:
Alien Ressurection

THE BAD:
Could turn out to be just anoth FPS

SUMMARY:
Games based on movies have always sucked. Developers take classic liscences and rush out a release to coincide with the release of the film. Fortunately though this is not always the case, because a few movie licenses are actually good fun. Look at Die Hard trilogy and you get 3 admittedly shallow games, but still three games in one. Alien Trilogy provided a tense moment in gaming when it was first released, but probably the best tie in was Fox interactive Alien Resurrection. That was a game that finally captured the spirit of the alien films with the way that Aliens could literally jump out from any direction, and scenes in the ventilation shafts being really claustrophobic. Unfortunately the games tension was slightly hampered by the quickly aging graphics of a PS1, which is why the possibility of another Alien FPS that uses similar dynamics, but has PS2 graphics has everyone wetting themselves with anticipation.

To be honest you shouldn't expect this game to be exactly like Alien Ressurection. It will include the best part's of that game, in the look and pace. Players will still walk around the corridors rather than run, because you'll need to be constantly on the look out for Aliens, and like Resurrection it's look is taken directly from the films including things such as set design, guns, sound, and obviously enough the aliens. On top of that though Fox are adding to the game in order to make a more enjoyable experience overall.

The main difference is probably in the inclusion of squad based gameplay. With the touch of a button you will now be able to choose the formation of your squad, including a square shape, dome shape, and a formation where the squad moves with you to protect you from attacks by rogue aliens. Only your squad wont be the only people in the game as the walls are literally covered in people incased in goo, Most are dead, but some are alive and you can save the living ones who will then join your squad and follow you right through to the end of the game. Unless they're among the unlucky ones, which means that you will find yourself in a difficult situation as an alien baby comes out of their gut.

Sorry but no video footage is available right now, so we can not see how the game actually moves so we'll just have to make do with the screen shots. However I can tell you that reliable sources suggest that the frame rate is actually pretty slow right now, but with no confirmed release date there's still plenty of time to sort this out, if the game ever get's a release date. Which it should because even though there is no way of knowing how well they've captured the tension of the films without actually playing the game, initial signs are that they could have a classic game on their hands.
