BRILLIANT online play.THE BAD:
Some levels are quite monotonous, especially towards the end.
For first time players of the game it can be hard.
Main game bases itself around the online option which can be a problem for players without online capabilities.SUMMARY:
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is certainly a very good game and one of the best in the FPS shooter genre. Online play is arguably the best on the PS2 and matches Socom II for sheer action packed fun. The story mode is very good fun and gives you a taste of modern warfare as the title of the game suggests. You battle for both sides of the war (The Chinese versus the Americans and British) and along the way you battle on land, in the ocean and up in the skies. If you ever get bored of the story mode or you don't have online capabilities then there are always challenges to suit your needs. Challenges include hot-swapping (A form of changing character quickly to get from one side of the battle to the other), boat racing and many other challenges involving guns! The graphics are top-class and there aren't any glitches which give the game a "clean" feeling.
After finding all these you then run into problems. As you progress through the story mode you noticed a lot of the levels are very similar and quite monotonous. Some of them are literally replicas of other ones you have completed with only the area being different. Another thing is if you can't play online then the game isn't nearly as enjoyable. The game seems to base itself around the online option and this can give it problems. If this is the first Battlefield game for you then it can be hard to get used to because there is quite a lot to learn quickly and some of the early levels could give you some hassle.
Overall though, the game is very good and well worth having if you are a fan of this genre. The story mode will keep you content for long enough due to the sheer length of it and online play is incredibly. I'd recommend this for any FPS shooter fan
