THE GOOD:-AI is remarkable. The best i have seen
-Weapons shake your world
-Finaly! I have to use cover to survive!
-Two words: Destructable environments
THE BAD:
-Really short
-You wind up using the same gun every chance you get
-The unlockables section needs some work-infinate ammo has been done before.
-You reserve the game to get a gun you get in the game anyway.
-I hate cutscenes, you can't skip them
SUMMARY:
I went to gamestop to pick up my reserved copy. I got out to my car and drove home probably going ten-twenty over the spead limit. I had been waiting in anticipation for this game for months, and finally it had come. I went home and popped it in, waiting for it to load. I started the single player, on easy (100% completion, okay) and sat through the opening cutscene. The first level started, and i immersed myself in the game, Mudvayne and Disturbed blasting from my speakers.
Black has the qualities that make an FPS title great: Realistic AI, weapons that thunder in your hands, the optional element of stealth, and destructable environments. I had been posting in the forums, discussing the game with a few members in the UK who had gotten it four days before the U.S. I was told that most of the levels took easily over an hour to complete, and was very dissapointed to find that after and hour i was already on the third level and still going. I intended to sit for a while and get a feel for the game, but my feel turned into a game completion on easy, under four hours of play when it was expected that it would take ten hours to complete. That was a big dissapointment. I sat there and thought, "Damn, I payed $40 for this game? What the crap?"
But , regardless of the shortness, i have still played this game over and over again, knowing each level by heart, almost timing when and where i move from the begining of the level. The what the crap did i buy this for fealing quickly left me when i replayed it again, and again, and again, and again... The game has the highest replay value of and FPS title i have ever played, which is a very wide variety of games, including every medal of honor, Red Faction, Halo, timesplitters, the list goes on. I even favor this game over Half-Life 2 and Doom 3. The weapons in the game are marvelous as well. But most of them you use out of necesity or for large groups of enemies, such as the Mac-10 Elite and the Uzi, and wind up using the same gun over and over again, like the AK, M16, and G36. In some cases, i play through the last level with the M249 over and over again. And most of the guns in the same class only really differ in accuracy, such as the AK and the M16. The M16 is slightly more accurate weapon, and i find that in my hands more than any other weapon. Especially after unlocking the Silver Weapons. After that, the M16A2 is the ultimate reward: The M16 with the M203 grenade launcher. This game is maginicant. As far as the main game goes, it overcomes Halo by a long shot. I must compare the two, as i compare FPS titles like a bad habit and have for years. The lack of multiplayer is the only thing i find really disapointing, they could have made such a great online game with this. Well, that's what sequals are for, as Halo and Halo 2 showed, Halo 2 getting the Xbox live feature. Muliplayer aside, i would sell every other FPS title in my collection (about 15 of them) in place of this game. I have already played this game more times through than all of my other FPS title combined. For any FPS veteran, or if you have yet to use your trigger finger, then this is a must buy.
