Okay lets start off with the setting. The heroes live underground in a uninhabitable world. This is where our hero Ryu 1/8192 or just plain Ryu resides. He patrols the ruined areas underground and fends off the bio-engineered creations that haunt the less developed regions as a Ranger.
It starts off with Ryu on a mission with his partner. He starts getting these visions when he encounters a dragon like fossil creature. Suddenly his train is attacked and he is sent spiraling to the abiss of caverns below. There he saves this girl from a monster and his story begins. From the start this game hits off on a high note unlike previous BoF games. Graphics wise this game has good cinematic sequences but its character shaping is a bit weird. The backgrounds look a lot better compared to the characters. Some parts will even leave you breathless. In the beginning theres this giant dragon corpse on the wall that looks very impressive. A possible boss later...
THE GOOD:
-cool Graphics -Music -battle system -Unique underground city THE BAD: SUMMARY:
This game is intense. There is no easy way to heal, no easy way to save. There's no way to level up easily, either. It's a constant hard struggle through long dungeons, with only a small amount of storage space (compared to other games) for items. There's no point where all your HP is restored. Tthere's no inn's, no magic springs, no resting. All you have are your hard won items throughout the entire game. And did I mention the limited inventory? You begin with a backpack consisting of two pages, each page of which has five different slots. In other words, you can carry ten different items, but you can only have ten of each in any slot. Fortunately, you can pick up six or seven more backpack pages. Unforunately, these are not carried over onto New Games.
The world of Dragon Quarter is different from all the other Breath of Fires. It's completely underground. You begin a thousand feet down, and the majority of the game consists of you working your way to the...
First of all, I would like to say something to any big BoF fans that want another BoF game that follows the exact same formula of all of the originals... don't buy this. Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter is completely different from previous games. However, I think it is improved.
Before I am flamed, hear me out. The battle system is great. It makes battles fun and interesting. You can create your own styles of play and you always see enemies before they fight you. Also, this game has a story that is NOT about saving the entire earth from an evil entity, and, let's face it, 99.9% of RPGs use the 'save the world' story. This game's story is simply about a young man who will do anything to save a friend, even if that means going from an underground world to the world above ground, and ends up realizing his full potential and fighting his own friends in the process. The Ant Colony sidequest is a fun way to spend Zenny, if you have any left over. This brings me...
THE GOOD:
The story plot seems so different from the other Breath of Fires I've ever seen. The originality is definitely there. Such a creative twist from your everyday hero living on the upper land doing mystical quests, this one really caught my eye all together. The characters, Ryu, Nina and Lin. Incredibly made characters and I'll tell you why. Ryu - Incredible sword techniques that are give and found for him along with great dragon powers, but be careful not to over do it. Nina - A frail looking girl but very powerful with magic. Lin - Some of the best guns skills I've seen. Can be proven to be very powerful. Along with being able to equip skills to their shield which turns out quite useful when fighting the baddies. Very graphic and detail battles when fighting that just scream greatness in it. Incredible soundtrack that I loved so damn much that I couldn't...
