THE GOOD: Voice-overs by original cast members. Nice cut scenes.THE BAD: Environments get boring. Gameplay too formulaic. SUMMARY: I purchased this game, (at full retail price, no less), because I was a fan of the television series, and though I usually prefer first-person shooters and role-playing games, I thought I'd give it a try. I've only been playing it for two days, but already I feel a bit ripped off. Firstly, while the environments change from level to level and from stage to stage, they're never really all that interesting. Hidden items aren't very well hidden, Max can only jump about half-a-foot, unless she's meant to jump higher, so forget about exploring, and if you expect to destroy a box and find a goodie inside, you'll be very dissapointed. And as far as interactive environments, such as breakable boxes, barricades, lockers, etc., it gets a little boring busting them after awhile, even by throwing enemies into them. And the gameplay is painfully repetitive and formulaic. Every level, you simply have to kill or subdue enemies, find explosives, keycards or whatever else it will take to get you to the next stage, and move on. There's no passion in the game at all and no room for deviation. To the game's credit, however, as you move on, the element of stealth gets more and more important, and you find yourself sneaking up on enemies, a la Metal Gear Solid, and putting the sleeper hold on them, so as not to attract the attention of 10 guards at once. And I must admit, I did stay up until 4AM last night playing. So the game isn't all bad. However, for $49.99, unless you're a hopeless fan of Dark Angel or Jessica Alba, stay far, far away from this game. If you must play it for yourself, make a trip to Blockbuster before you make the trip to buy it. |
