THE GOOD: -Turn Based -Make as many characters as you want -No Level Cap -Tons of monsters to fight -Freedom to walk around in the real world -Most of the time, you can go somewhere even if you have something to do in the storyline -Grid Maps -Lots of Strategy options -Random Level Option in Candy World, where you can play hundreds and possibly thousands of different levelsTHE BAD: Really? Nothing. There's usually always something bad about a game, but there's nothing really bad that I can point out here. The game may not be perfect, as no game is, which is why I have yet to rate a game a perfect score of 5, but there's definitely not anything wrong with this game. SUMMARY: This is the second game in the Disgaea Series. The first one followed Etna and Laharl. Now, in Cursed Memories, you'll be playing as Adell. Enta and Laharl are in this game, but don't play as big of a part. Adell is the cool main character with no brains and the type to rush into any battle.
Gameplay 10/10
There's nothing wrong with this. You can make your own characters, as well as having a few characters that are part of the story line already, although you don't have to use them. You'll get to bring out 10 characters on a map at a time, once you've obtained that many. The battle system is on a grid board, turn-based and 3D. There are many spells as well as weapons that you can use, and many classes of characters to choose from, such as Mage, Fighter, Samurai, and others. Each class has a tier list that has stronger characters as you unlock them. There's no level cap, well, unless you consider 9999 a cap. It's pretty much impossible to get that high, and you'll want to reincarnate anyways, which resets your character back to level 1, yet gives him way better stat increases that time around. You can do this multiple times too, so you can become insanely powerful if you really feel like playing that much.
Graphics 10/10
The Graphics are definitely up to par with the PS2. Sure, they aren't the best you've seen, but they're still pretty nice and well done. The characters are sorta of Chibi, but not so much cute looking as they are small. They could have probably done some slightly better graphics, but the fact is, this game doesn't really need it.
Music 10/10
There's plenty of music in this game. It's not really something that you have to pay attention to, but you shouldn't get bored of it. The music also works well with the game and is nice background noise.
Story 10/10
This is where I usually have to take off some points. Now this story isn't really perfect or anything, but there's nothing wrong with it, and it's not really childish or just plain stupid like some games. Basically, the humans are turning into demons, and losing their memories. In an attempt to summon Overlord Zennon, who is apparently controlling the curse, your mom fails and summons someone else. So instead, you have to quest through the game and get to Overlord Zennon so you can try to defeat him and lift the curse that is making humans lose their memories and turn into Demons.
Overall 40/40
Yeah. That's right. It's a great game. There's nothing truly flawed with it that would make you not want to play it, and all of it's features are pretty well designed. Of course I still can't rate it perfect, because although all none of the aspects of this game are flawed, they could all still improve. It lasts quite a while, and keeps you busy. And it's fun, of course. There's lots to do, and you have some freedom, so you could play for 40-50 hours to beat the story, and maybe 200 to do everything. If you really want a game to spend some time on, this is it, because there's tons of random things that you can do after the story is over. It's pretty hard to get bored of Disgaea! |
