Monster Rancher 4

THE GOOD:
Monster Rancher 4 evolves from it's predecessors in many ways, and each one of them is an improvement. You can now raise up to five monsters, adventures have been made so they are more involved, your ranch can be customized, graphics have been updated, etc.

THE BAD:
Adventures, though vastly improved, are too long. Save points and/or set levels rather than randomly generated ones would be a further improvement.

SUMMARY:
I have have followed the MR series for a long time. I own all basic console versions (1,2,3, and 4), as well as the handheld MRA2. While they all had their strongpoints, and were great games at the time (and still are), MR4 completely blows them away. There is an odd level of difficulty balance that actually works out quite well. It may seem easy at first, but it gets more difficult as you go, but only in small amounts...until you hit S class. At that point you are forced to take what knowledge you have gained and...

THE GOOD:
its very addicting, and VERY fun. being a fan of the first one adds to my excitement with the new shit in this one

THE BAD:

SUMMARY:
i love monster rancher... raise a suezo, u wont be disspbointed. the monsters are very detailed graphically, and its MAD funb to play your frineds once you both get monsters on the brink of death, so they are at their peak. you battle them,, and the bragging contest begins! i love the way that the battle scenes are done, every monster has its own weakness and strength, and there are so many taht there are personilizations on them.. heres a hint... DONT RAISE THE FISH PEOPLE... THEY SUCK BALLS, well tahts all for me! and now im just waisting time, so nana nany freakin booboo

THE GOOD:
Monsters are new: The new guys are totally cool.
New Attacks: Old monsters have new and more attacks.
Leveling Up: Leveling up in adventures everytime you beat a "stray".
More Monsters: You can carry 5 monsters in your ranch.
Buying Your Own Gadgets: Buy your own training props.
Rare Monsters: There are extremely rare monsters like worm in the game.
Monsters Interact With Each Other: As if they were friends!

THE BAD:
Freezing Your Monster Means DEATH: You cannot thaw your monsters after freezing.

SUMMARY:
It's cool. It's kinda like a half RPG, half Simulation game. Like in Final Fantasy, 3 in a party and you can run into wild monsters. Plus 3 monsters can perform a powerful special move when fighting a boss: (Example: Knight's Glory, Trinity, etc.)

THE GOOD:
Cataloging as I put it.
Cataloging - a mini-game so to speak, where you insert Cd/Dvd/psx/Ps2 disks to regenerate monsters at the shrine, with about 368 monsters to unlock with over 25 species, cataloging has taken alot of time and is quite useful to unlock nice monsters

Adventure Mode - In this Adventure Mode, Unlike previous games like Monster Rancher 2, this is a free roaming part, and you can also search in the dirt, water,small caves, for items, like pokemon you run into stray monsters randomly, and in these battles you gain experience to level up and learn new techniques and monster traits like "fire lore". In addition to Adventure, you can also find Tablets to get new gagets which increase the effect of training(Pow Life etc) and stones, which at the Shrine you can unlock monsters from which helps complete the monster collection.

Group/Tag team battles - In tag team battle you have 3 monsters and you can switch them anytime at all, and...

THE GOOD:
Variety and an ability to hold my interest for hours on end.

THE BAD:
Menu design needs a bit of work and Monster Retirement was a bummer for me. I'm used to maxing out my characters so I have a hard time accepting when something gets "too old" to keep around.

SUMMARY:
Darn I'm a sucker for a good time consuming RPG, and this definitely fits into that category...

I've never played MR1, 2 or 3; so this was a new experience (and kind of reminded me of pokemon for gameboy in design), but the experience was and still is great

The story line was cheesy and predictable, except for one plot twist I didn't foresee... but entertaining enough despite the simplicity.

Whoever came up with the idea to use existing CD/DVD's was a clever punk. This "mini-game" alone has occupied much of my time.

THE GOOD:
Everything about it, the gameplay, the graphics, the story line, the controls. Everything about it.

THE BAD:
There really isnt' anything that I can say bad about this game. I enjoy every minute of it's gameplay.

SUMMARY:
This game is Awesome, I just wish I could find some codes for it. I've followed this game from Monster Rancher 1 all the way up and I have watched it grow and change into this incredible game that gives so many options to the player. The ablilty to catch monsters off dvd and cd's is just genious. It opens doors that was previously locked for the gameing industry, I can't wait to see what they will do with the game next. The ability to catch monsters from other discs gives the player a feeling of power and control over the game taht no other game in gameing history has allowed.
