THE GOOD: Multi-player mode Graphics Sound Effects Diversity
THE BAD: A little short (but I played so much, it might not have really been that short).
SUMMARY: My husband made me buy this so that I could play my first horror game. As he is usually the one who plays them and I watch. I had such a great time playing this game. However, I noticed, being unexperienced with this type of game, that I would get hit a couple times and die. I was not thrilled with the AI of my companions, so my husband got the second controller and joined me as my companion. We played the entire game together and had a blast! It is NOT split-screen, but rather the main person has control of where you go, and the second player is also on the screen and can search, pick things up, attack enemies, etc.
By the end of the game, I felt like a pro and was able to kill enemies without getting hit as often. The dark rooms are eery and the sound/music is great. I wish all horror survival games were built with this type of two player mode. And I hope that all genre's pick this up as well.
If you are looking for an affordable game, with the style similar to Resident Evil/The Suffering, then this game is for you.
THE GOOD: Great graphics Good set of weapons Great setting 5 different characters Good weapons Decent story Varied enemies Co-op Soundtrack
THE BAD: Normal music gets on your bap Uninspiring Wandering
SUMMARY: Obscure is such a surprise and it came out of nowhere. After Horror games like Silent Hill 4, Resident Evil: Outbreak and a few more, Obscure needed to be good to compete. Also is game is NOT out in America. Not yet anyway...
Obscure's set in an American High School with five main students as the heroes. They are all different and have special abillities. They are...
Kenny - Runs fast Stan - Picks door quickly Shannon - Helps you and heals people better Ashley - Has special combat moves Josh - Tells you where items and important things are
You have to use the five to the best to your advantage to get through the game. You pick who want to be and who you want with you covering you but you can work by yourself.
The game has a great mix of action, exploration and puzzles. The exploration does go on a bit at times if you are stuck finding out where to go next. The action is very face paced for a Horror game. Compare it to Resident Evil or Silent Hill it quite smooth and fast. Works better than Ghosthunter which was fast-paced couldn't keep up with it. The puzzles aren't much. No problem for Silent Hill experts.
Obscure isn't scary. Like I said in my Ghosthunter review this is not scary. It scary at all. It tries to by making noises in the background while you're playing but chances are that you'll barely notice it while wasting a zombie student in the head with a revolver.
This brings me nicely to the weapon set. You get bats, pistols, shotguns and more. You can also tape torches onto them if you have sticky tape handy.
The overall sound is good. It has soundtrack from bands like Sum 41 and Span. But while you are playing the music is annoying, definately when a choir starts singing. The voice acting is good but some might call it "cheesey".
Obscure isn't the longest game in the world but it's worth going over again especially with a friend for two player co-op.
Obscure is surprising to see something competing with the competion. It has some fresh ideas and great graphics to game the game alive and the zombies dead.
