THE GOOD:
The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is ok, they have a good selection of vehicles....

THE BAD:
Bad control of vehicles, way to hard, cars are near impossible to earn....

SUMMARY:
This game will always be unfairly compared to the great Gran Turismo 3. Had that game not come out, this game would definitely be up there as one of the better racing sims. I admit it isn't the best one out there but its not as bad as people make it seem.

Overall Outcome: Rent It!

Just like every racing game released in the last 4 or so years, Driving Emotion Type S will be unfairly compared to the masterpiece known as Gran Tourismo. If there is any game that should be able to downplay the sales of GT, I think it would be this game.

If there is one thing that Square Soft is famous for, it would be paying attention to details in the visual effect of every game they make, Driving Emotion Type S is no exception. Not only are the cars a perfect match to real life, but the dash boards have been re-created for each car as well (the dash boards actually work). The course design has been done very well, and almost seems like you are driving on a real road. Another thing that impresses me about this game is the background graphics. Where most racing games leave a 2-Dimentional background to be stared at, Driving Emotion Type S has actually a 3-D background.

In order to make a racing game not too incredibly boring, Square needed to include some...

THE GOOD:
A REAL simulation

THE BAD:
...a REAL simulation

SUMMARY:
Folks, this is more a driving game than a racing game. I really think the best way to describe this game is: 1)the physics and handling of F355 Challenge on Dreamcast 2)the graphics of Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast (somewhat glossier, yet more jaggies). You're not given many cars or tracks to choose from initially. This is a major error for any sim game. Chances are you are going to get sick of the handling immediately and will want to seek refuge in the driver's seat of 'another' car on a 'different' track.

In fairness, I must admit that the night track through the city does look beautiful as the anti-aliasing is significantly reduced. Hmmm... I wonder why TXR1 and 2 look SO good?

What can I say, if you loved F355 Challenge and MSR and don't mind this release title's flicker and anti-aliasing (even during replays), then check out this game.
