Another great game | 4.5 0 comments |
by Sapphire Dragon from None of, , your business | Aug 9, 2008 |
THE GOOD: - Insomniac did a wonderful job of the graphics. The explosions were realistic, and the animations perfect. - The game had a large selection of weapons, which made it very entertaining. - Online play is amazing.
THE BAD: - As always, Insomniac's games have been very glitchy. Through my first play through, I had already found over a dozen glitches. - The online servers have been having trouble with lag glitches, causing the server to become very slow. - The game becomes very boring, after a bit. -The replay value is not too good. SUMMARY: In all honesty, I would play this game over again, but I wouldn't exactly be glued to the screen twenty-four/seven. Although fun, this game has a lot of repetition in it. First, you have to go to a planet and do something, then come back, then go back to the planet again, then 4 levels later, come back to the Starship. It gets pretty boring after a while.
As I stated before, the game is also very glitchy. I doesn't take much to skip entire levels, and mess the storyline up. But then again, glitches keep games interesting.
The gadgets and weapons in the game kept it very entertaining. You could experiment with killing certain enemies with certain weapons, and enjoy trying to upgrade them.
Online play is one of the best features of the game, in my opinion. The servers have been laggy though, causing many people to freeze or quit games. In the current state it's in, I wouldn't consider it the BEST online game, but still one I wouldn't mind playing often.
The voice acting was great, I loved the voices of the rangers and other side characters. The voice of Ratchet, Clank, and Qwark were yet again as great as ever.
I have always loved the controls of the R&C series. The character are very easy to control, and the camera is very customizable. I believe that anyone, be it a hardcore gamer, or a young child playing his first game could easily play this game.
And, as always, Insomniac put great amounts of humor into this game. I found many of the cut scenes very entertaining.
Compared to the other games in the series, this one wasn't too good. The first two were far better that UYA or Deadlocked. The storyline was very good, but it wasn't as interesting as the others. It became very monotonous after a while.
Although not as good as a few others, this game still remains one of my ultimate favorites.
So, here is my score for this game:
Storyline 4.5 Controls: 5.0 Entertainment: 4.9 Replay Value: 3.5
Overall, I'm giving this game a 4.5.
This was my first review, so thank you for reading. Please vote ^^

Another great R&C game | 4.6 0 comments |
by dragonclawz from Belleville, ON, Canada | May 24, 2008 |
THE GOOD: - Ratchet and Clank are back for the 3rd straight year with a new adventure - Pretty good storyline this time around; how the Qwark comics affect the story was very cool; the Q-Force is a really cool team, though most of them really do nothing at all - Great graphics, as usual; great cutscenes; great music and sounds as well - Lots of great characters; good final boss (and he isn’t a pushover) - Decent amount of bosses - Probably the funniest game of the series so far - Some of the best weapons and gadgets of the series - Collect special bolts and trophies - Skill points are back, and as fun to collect as ever - Squad-based missions are really fun - Arena battles are a lot of fun; many great bosses - Great weapon upgrade system - Upgradeable armor; very handy - Though they are slightly annoying, sphere planets are back; cool map system as well - The game as a whole is very polished - Best crystal/moonstone collection of the series; so much fun and very exciting and slightly challenging - Awesome vehicles to use throughout the story - Online play is always cool to have, even though I never tried it - Best hacking gadget of the series - Best transformation gadget of the series; it is really fun to turn into a Thyrranoid; very funny as well - Falling from the sky and dodging rockets is really fun - Challenge Mode returns - Play as Clank and control Gadgebots; even control Skrunch by using a Banana Gun to make him go places - Qwark Comics are pretty cool and fun - Giant Clank is back and is better than ever; best use of him in the seriesTHE BAD: - No races - Not enough bosses - Do not use the cool vehicles enough - For there being a constant Thyrranoid invasion going on, there were not too many parts of the game that felt like an invasion of the little creatures; many more long battles would be cool - Since I really liked the squad-based missions, I really wish there were more of them - Wish the game was longer, more planets, etc. - No large, open planets - No glider - Not enough grind rails or swingshot courses; not even gadget use either; more puzzles would be cool as well - More bolt cranks would be cool, as well as magnet boot paths - The game is not challenging enough, even by going through the Challenge Mode - No enough Clank parts - The Q-Force is pretty useless, but very funny nonetheless SUMMARY: I first got this game when it came out years ago, but apparently I forgot to write a review for it. So I replayed the game recently, and actually found that I liked it a lot more now then I did when it first came out. It is one of the best games in the series, even though there are no races and not enough boss fights (other than arena bosses). The previous game in the series is a little better, but this game is right up there with the best few titles of the series.
The game is essentially the same as ever. You play as Ratchet and Clank, going through every planet, taking out the bad guy in the end and thus saving the universe. Run, jump, fly, swim, etc. You use various weapons to blow the crap out of everything and everyone, and gadgets also help you do various things along your journey. For most of the game, you play as Ratchet with Clank on your back. As in past games, there are parts of the game where you play as just Clank (or Giant Clank).
The storyline of the game is actually one of my favorites of the series. Clank has his own TV show, and Ratchet is enjoying staying out of the spotlight for awhile. Suddenly, his home planet is attacked, which soon leads to an invasion of the galaxy by the evil Dr.Nefarious, his quirky sidekick Lawrence, and the “squishy race” known as the Thyrranoids. Nefarious wants to destroy all organics in the galaxy and have only robots rule, and enlists the help of the not-so-intelligent Thyrranoids to help him (who are organic themselves, and will thus eventually take themselves out). The president of the galaxy asks Ratchet and Clank to find the only superhero that has ever defeated Nefarious in the past to help them defeat him again, so you set up to find him and then soon form the Q-Force team, a group of warriors to help you along your journey. The team consists of new and old faces, all of which help you in some way or another. You will also have periodic help from the Presidents “galactic rangers”. Your adventure and fight begins, and your goal is to take out Nefarious and save the galaxy once again.
The story itself is very in-depth for the series. There are a few twists and turns, and many laughs along the way. I really liked how the Qwark comics you collect throughout the game help unlock his memory and help with the story. All in all, one of the best stories of the series.
The graphics and cutscenes of the game are as great as ever. Ever since the first game, they have both been great. There is a lot of focus to detail and color, and everything seems to work nice together. Cutscenes are as funny as ever, mostly when Nefarious is on the screen and angry. You will have many laughs.
There is a lot to do in the game when it comes to the gameplay. The most fun will probably be found when you start blowing the crap out of everything. Most of every planet is destructible, so if you feel like having some fun, blow everything and everyone up. Various other things you will come across are: arena battles (really fun and challenging); space fights; grind rails; magnet boot paths (walking on walls, upside down, etc); swingshots paths; crystal, trophy, skill point, and titanium bolt collections; Clank and Giant Clank battles; boss fights; planet exploration (secrets); and so much more. There really is so much to do in the game, and every R&C game for that matter. No vehicle races this time around though, which sucks.
The weapons and gadgets are as great as ever. The weapon list is smaller than the last game in the series, but most of the useless weapons are gone and replaced with useful weapons. Most of the weapons we get are strong and useful, while others are more strategic. Some old weapons return, and are better than ever. The weapon upgrade system is really good this time around, and gets even better in future games in the series.
The Clank parts of the game are some of the best in the series, and the Giant Clank parts are by far the best in this game. In inclusion of Skrunch to Clanks parts makes his sections of the game even more fun, which is hard to believe (since controlling the Gadgetbots is fun enough).
One of my favorite aspects of the game is the squad-based parts of the game. Ratchet teams up with the Galactic Rangers at a few points during the game to take out a Thryrranoid invasion before it can spread. The missions are really fun, and pretty challenging at times. I wish there were more of these parts in the game.
Another great aspect of the game is the sewer crystal collection. Easily my favorite collection system in the series. You run through a large sewer system, collecting crystals and killing small/medium/large/XL Amoeboid enemies. It is really exciting this time around and very challenging because the sewers are so large. Great way to get money as well, because you can sell the crystals for bolts (money). The collection gets even more exciting when you get your magnet boots, because you can then walk on the walls/ceiling of the tunnel (to get past Amoeboids and get to new hidden sewer areas).
There are quite a few little faults in the game, but none really need to be discussed in further detail. I would have loved to have seen races in the game, as well as more bosses, more levels and Galactic Ranger missions, more useful parts for the Q-Force, and more grind rails/magnet boot paths/swingshot courses. The other faults are just very minor.
So all in all, this is a great game in the series. Not my absolute favorite (maybe 3rd best out of 5 games), but it is really fun and a great sequel to the first two games. It does a lot of things right and a lot of things better this time around. If you enjoy other games in the series, you will definitely enjoy this game. |

Not the Best Chapter in the Story | 3.6 0 comments |
by Big_Burta from , , Imaginationland | Jul 9, 2007 |
THE GOOD: -Same beautiful graphics -Same awesome sound -Same great controls -The dialog has really improved -A couple of cool features -Still satsifyingTHE BAD: -Disobedient camera occasionally -Easy, repetitive combat -Frustrating puzzles -The levels are way too linear -Excessively short -Mostly lame extras -Disappointing multiplayer -Lame missions (get some information, defeat enemy troops, stop the villain, fight more troops, get more information, stop the villain again, etc.) -Lack of gameplay elements (no ship combat, racing, grinding, etc.) -As you progress, the difficulty is random SUMMARY: Because the first two Ratchet and Clank games were a hit, every R&C fan was tempted to try the third title. But is this game really all its cracked up to be? It depends on how well you take the disappointments you find here.
Graphics: 10 -- As always, these are some of the best visuals you can bring out in a PS2. And it was great to see the same explosive style without a single change. The character models are still highly impressive; the details are still perfect with the realistic textures, shine, and shading, and the animations are as close to real life as ever. There are a couple of problems with characters going through objects, but its not too bad. Also, the animations for the new models are completely appropriate for them (little guys run around like little kids, and big guys move heavily and aggressively). The level designs are also amazing. Every element of the environment looks and moves like it would in reality, from the grass to skyscrapers. They are even shaded according to the direction of the sun (or whatever the light source is). The glow of lights and shine from metal or glass couldnt be done better by anyone else in the PS2 industry (except for Squeenix, of course). Some of the actual designs are kind of boring, but than again, thats only when the appearance of the level isnt important (the appearance is helpful for indicating what kind of enemies youll face and what dangers could be there). But whats truly astonishing about this has to be the effects. It seems as though they were improved even further from Going Commando, because they are capable of lighting up the whole screen! The explosions are so luminous that you wouldnt expect a PS2 to support something like it, especially when they light up the screen and temporarily alter the games appearance. The other effects from flames, electricity, guns, and gadgets are incredibly radiant as well. They can also light up the environment or give off realistic sparks. But the particle effects from the environment itself arent quite as lovely. Im not saying they look bad, but that they just dont grab your attention like the explosions do. Some of them are very cool, but practical ones like water splatters and bits of dirt or grass are nothing new. They look great, but they are easily drowned out by the weapon flares. All in all, these graphics are the best in the series (so far).
Sound: 8.8 -- This isnt the best sound in the series, but I was still impressed. The music is still very fitting for the level designs, but Ive noticed it doesnt always work with the mood. I mean, the final level has this slow, opera finale-type music when it should be more upbeat. But unlike most games with this problem, it only occurs in a few stages. However, the soundtrack itself isnt quite as alluring as the previous games. Some of the songs are pretty cool, but most of them are just okay, and some just suck. Luckily, the music is really the only thing about the sound I didnt like, but it is bad enough to affect the overall score a bit. Moving on, the sound effects are even more appealing than before. As always, everything you do is accompanied by a realistic sound effect that is almost perfectly timed. And I love the loudness of the explosions compared to everything else, which was lacking in the last two titles. Also, the shattered glass and metal noises are some of the best Ive heard. If you were to smash up everything in a level while blinded, you would still be able to tell what it is youre destroying. And then theres the infamous dialog of the game. It hasnt quite improved over the years as much as Id like, but at least I dont have to turn up the volume for each scene. Also, the script seems to be more rehearsed. And I like how some characters had moments where they didnt know what to say as well as the different tones of some of them. There seems to be more emotion and enthusiasm as well. This game may not come in first for sound, but you will still enjoy it.
Handling: 6 -- I wasnt too pleased with what I found in UYAs gameplay. Even though you still have total control over the camera, for some reason it keeps coming in a bit too close unless you are out in the open. In a game like this, that pretty much makes you a sitting duck because you don't have enough space to attack your enemies. Also, it has a slight problem with going in its own direction when you need to wait and watch for something so that you cant see it. In some cases, like when the level takes a turn, its good. If only it would work with bosses. It's easy to fix these problems, but it will get on your nerves. At least there are no problems with the controls. Theyre as simple and easy to use as ever. I just wish Ratchet was equipped with more moves to aid in the 'new' gameplay system. However, if you change the view youre playing from (third person, first person, or lock-strafe), the controls switch around, and its not very obvious at first. This causes you to shoot when you dont want too and waste ammo, charge when you need to jump and fly off the platform, or squat down when you wanted to attack and take damage. Good thing you dont have to change the perspective. Speaking of which, the difficulty is horribly unbalanced this time. Its either incredibly easy or downright frustrating at random parts of the game, rather than gradually increasing the difficulty as you proceed. Just like the original R&C, the combat requires little strategy and eliminates anything challenging about it. Whats worse is the enemy AI. Like, if you shoot at them from a distance, any nearby enemies dont care, even if the one you shot tries to attack. Other times, they will gang up on you as soon as you come in close enough. And yet the hacking challenges requiring gadgets are extremely maddening. They call for quick timing and reflexes, something that the people who would play this game cant easily master (we want to blow stuff up, not solve puzzles). But the worst part is with the manual gadgets you use on your own. They are incredibly irresponsive; when you press the trigger, it doesnt always activate the obstacle right away to create a temporary platform or swing you across a pit, and since you have to be quick, you are likely to fall to your death. Another problem is that the obstacles can trigger themselves when you take out the gadget, even if you dont press the trigger, which reduces your time with the platform even further. If that's not enough, these kinds of obstacles pop up in almost every level, which can make it more frustrating that it really is. Still, platforming itself isnt as simple as it should be. The platforms can get too distant, or you will have to walk across a series of tiny platforms that are easy to slide off of. And unlike before, the enemies can knock you off edges effortlessly. You cant even grab onto ledges as well. I dont know what happened with this game, but Insomniac could definitely do much better than this.
Entertainment: 6.8 -- The appeal factor of this game is not hindered by the poor gameplay for once. No, this game has less than a 7 in Entertainment because of all the disappointing changes. The satisfaction of destruction is still alive and well, but the platforming is not so good. Its just so linear, and it hardly offers any challenges besides mindlessly blasting your weapons at enemies. All Insomniac cared to put into this game was too many lame combat opportunities and hardly any platforming/exploration elements. Rarely did I experience the thrill of the last two games here. Not even getting coordinates to the next planet was as exciting. But thats what you get for focusing only on stupid, strategy-deprived combat. Sure, experimenting with UYA is fun at first, but the sometimes excessive, sometimes lacking, mediocre gameplay can bring you down in time. Also, in the past you were required to revisit previous planets to recover items or start new paths with newfound equipment, often to find out about a cool new objective. But now you just get from point A to point B, with little mission variety. I had fun with this, but I soon found myself bored with this new pattern. There are so few missions it's ridiculous. It's always the same old thing; you get informed, you fight the enemy, you stop the villain. Not only that, but the developers were really lazy on the side quests and such. There is hardly anything else to do when you finish the game other than the humdrum arena or enemy attack battles, which get old very quickly. This proves that this game just isnt fun unless the combat and exploration are balanced out with plenty of other challenges to complete.
Features: 5 -- Wow, this huge lack of contribution is a real shocker. First of all, Insomniac promised around 30 levels of gameplay, but they only put in a mere 18. And every one of those levels is incredibly small. Unlike the last two games with at least two paths in almost every level, this one only has one path. Its rare to see more than one path anywhere. And these paths tend to be unreasonably short (it only takes about 3 minutes to get through each, whereas before it took at least 10 for one good planet before). I know the first game had 18 too, but the levels were more than twice as large, and they weren't so compounded. So this game is overall way too short. Also, there are about as many weapons as there are levels. And just like those levels, the weapons really suck. Almost all of them prove to be useless, just barely damaging your opponent. Lots of them are too short in range and radius, and the run out of ammunition rather quickly, too. They just look cool, which shows me that Insomniac but too much of its concentration on appearance. Even worse, there are almost no gadgets, and only the most annoying ones are used often. All the creative ones like an enemy disguise or laser redirector are scarcely used, whereas the annoying hacker and platform generator/grapple are used in almost every level. What's even more annoying is that those gadgets are recycled from the first two games, so they've been done way too many times. Oh, and all of the cool things from before like hover races, ship combat missions, and grindrails were all removed to make room for all the annoying battle missions. And if thats not enough, this is the first and only game in the series with no new, original extras. All you can get are uncreative, recycled cheats and movies that you've already sceneits only the basics from before. Well, there is a special concept level with a few cool features, but thats really the only thing I liked, even though Going Commando (Locked and Loaded) already featured this. Oh, and about this new multiplayer feature: its not at all as compelling and fun as the ads claimed it to be. You basically choose the arena, what youre going to play (Death Match, Capture the Flag, or Siege Match), and the standard online options. It sounds fun, but it gets old in a matter of minutes. Its boring, its uncreative, and it has far too many limits. This game is just too disappointing for my taste.
Replay Value: Moderate
Overall: 7.3 -- There are definitely many, many things about this game Id like to change. The visual and audio elements may be spectacular, but that doesnt quite make up for the unsatisfactory gameplay. This game may not be the best in the series, but I guess it passes as a way to continue the story. |

Better than the original; worse than the 2nd | 3.1 0 comments |
by Kiker from , , Australia | Jul 2, 2006 |
THE GOOD: Highly addictive adventure+shooting gameplay. Can be challenging at times. Fixes some faults that the original and Going Commando had. A little longer than the last 2 games. Better graphics. Better versions of some of the older guns. Slightly enhanced rumor.THE BAD: Some faults that the last 2 games had are still around. Can get frustrating. The enemy AI is far more random this time around; some are dumb, some can predict your movements and kill you quickly. Still too short. Proves to be very easy at times; especially when your weapons upgrade at a fast rate. Pretty damn glitchy. The humor could be a little more "mature". Linear. No more Grind Boots, Hoverboard/Hoverbike Races or Space Battles; just land combat and limited exploration SUMMARY: Ratchet and Clank still proves to be a mediocre series struggling to impress us well. You would expect that Insomniac would make this game last longer and stop giving us the random enemy AI, but instead, the AI is more random than ever and, while this lasted a fair while, still proves to take as little time as possible with as little difficulty as possible.
The game starts with Ratchet and Clank playing some sort of game that crosses Dungeons and Dragons with Chess ( ). Then Clank turns on the TV and it shows a TV show where Clank is a secret agent, blowing up enemy robots. The next scene shows Clank and some of, what I like to call, whores, picking up his limo from the valet, which is played by Ratchet, which, of course, pissed Ratchet off (if you were acting as a low form of life on a big TV show, you'd be pretty pissed too). Then Rachet turns the TV to the news and sees his planet getting the shit blown out of it by an alien race known as the Tyrranoids (or Noids for short). Ratchet and Clank then fly their ship towards Ratchet's planet and then they have to save the planet. Once the planet has been saved, Ratchet and Clank need to look for someone who can take down this new evil madman known as Dr Naferious. The man ends up being Captain Qwark (who is re-tarded when you find him). His memory must be restored, then you and several other characters from the original Ratchet and Clank game, as well as some new characters, join forces to make a team. The team must kill the Tyrranoids and Dr Naferious. The rest of the story explains itself in the form of some cutscenes.
Don't worry, you'll figure out the rest of this story without having to do much outside the main story.
First off, in Going Commando, there were 2 stadiums that both kept on expanding everytime you went further in the game, got a new weapon and/or have completed the earlier events. In this one, you only have 1 coliseum that either have events which involves a deathcourse where you have to traverse through it while trying to stay alive or a gladiator-style event where it's Ratchet onto an army of Robots, Gladiators and Tyrranoids. The challenges there can differ from easy to hard, depending on how you manage to play each event, your strategy and this thing called "common sense". Yes, in these gladiator cups, more common sense is needed. Unlike in GC's gladiator cups, the enemies come in swarms and won't hesitate to kill you. In the earlier cups, the enemies will just swarm and swing their weapons when you get close to them, which means they can kill each other. Going further and further, the enemies will grow some brains and a good pair of balls and swarm and kill quickly. The prizes are bolts (and sometimes, gadgets).
Secondly, in Going Commando (again), there were instances where you battled enemies with your ship. This time, space battles are a miss and in its place is some shitty replacement known as "missions with the galactic forces". The first few times, the missions do provide some sort of challenge and/or have interesting conditions, but as you get further in the game, the missions will be the same thing: Kill enemies; either with a ship or on foot, turn some bolt cranks or defend something. It's interesting the first couple of times, but throughout the game, it's going to be samey, therefore, repetitive. Now, yes, the space battles were also repetitive, but the space battles also provided a lot of challenge. In space battles, you had to watch all corners, with no radar or any form of direction. With these "missions", you have a lot of sense of direction, the enemies are low in numbers and it isn't half as chaotic nor fun. In space battles, the ship was fast. In missions, Ratchet is fairly slow unless he has access to vehicles, which is pretty rare. Both have one weakness that is the same: Repetitiveness. However, with the space battles, again, it is fast paced, meaning that repetitiveness is what could make this better. While in missions, repeititveness is bad. Considering that missions are a lot like normal gameplay only with the galactic rangers, it's just playing normally but with a few thousand bolts as a prize. However, I just thought that there should be space battles in this title.
Thirdly, in the original and GC, there were Grind Boots. There aren't this time around. Grind Boots added some challenge in the last 2 games, so without them, this game has lost some of the normal challenge. Grind Boots, for the clueless, are boots that grind on certain rails. If you fall off a rail, you die. You have to jump rail-to-rail a lot. But why am I writing that? You'll never experience something like that in Up Your Arsenal (this game)! So that is another fun point off this game.
Fourthly, there were races in the first 2 games. This game lacks any form of racing. Racing in the first game was for the purpose of items. Racing in Going Commando was for the purpose of items and to get some spare change. There are no races in this game as this game has focused too much on combat and adventure. Racing was added as a fun way to get bolts and skill points. However, this one just doesn't have races, which means it has not too much fun within it.
Fifthly, this game feels more linear than the last two games. In the original, the worlds were big and expansive, with lots of exploration value. In Going Commando, the worlds were a bit more linear but has more sidequests and harder AI which wasn't re-tarded or weren't masterminds. Also, in Going Commando, you had this thing called more freedom. In this Ratchet and Clank game, freedom is more limited. From collecting Sewer Crystals for the plumber you have seen in the other two games; to gladiator cups; to doing missions. I counted 3-4 things that weren't relating to the main story. That is not many at all, making this game pretty damn linear. Not good at all.
Look on the bright side; if you like adventuring and blasting your enemies to bits, this game might actually prove to be better than the last two. I thought this was far better than the original even though the original had more freedom. The original was slow paced with shitty weapons. This one is fairly chaotic (though not nearly as chaotic as Ratchet: Gladiator, but more than Going Commando), with a lot of action and you are going to need fast reflexes. For example, just today, I was storming through one of the levels with just 1 bit of health left and I was about half way to the objective when I hit 1 HP. I just stormed the place with whatever gun would help me survive and a lot of strafing and sideflips.
There aren't half as many continue points this time around as there were in Going Commando; you're going to have to sideflip, backflip, mash the X and O buttons and choose your weapons carefully in order to live. If you die and you're very close to a continue point, you will have to start from the continue point that is far, far away from where you are. That is why you need fairly fast reflexes or a really good strategy like falling back when your ammo is low and only attacking when the enemies are altogether so you don't waste your ammo.
Some weapons do not have multi-targeting features. In fact, some of them hit one enemy like the N60 Storm. Some weapons are melee weapons, like the Omniwrench or the Plasma Whip. And some weapons from past Ratchet and Clank games make a return. You can get the original's weapons at the Startship Phoenix and you can get Going Commando's weapons from Slim Cognito (the same guy who selled Ship Parts in Going Commando) at Aquatos. This time around, the upgrades aren't complete ass. Instead of a multi-hit weapon turning into a meteor that hits 1, the Lava Gun turns into Liquid-Nitrogen Gun which freezes the enemy. Although for that to happen, you'll need to upgrade it quite a bit by using it a lot to kill enemies.
I guess it's that time...
Breakdown:
Gameplay: 3 Unless you have fast reflexes, fast thinking or a good overall strategy, you're going to have a hard time going through some of the levels. There are two ways to take this. Either be a pussie and fall back when your weapons are screwed or be a man and use the weapons to the full extent when you're low on health and need to kick some ass.
Control: 5 I don't know about the readers, but these are possibly some of the easiest controls I have come across. First off, all platformers which aren't in this series (excluding the original) and the Jak and Daxter series have really average or pissy controls that take time to master. The only time you'll need mastering these controls is when it starts getting chaotic. Remember, though, these controls aren't exactly perfect. There is the simple screw-up with Quick Select, otherwise, these controls are pretty easy to master.
Story: 3 The story is quite average at best. It's the samn damn thing as the original and Going Commando. Ratchet has to save the galaxy he saved in the original game. I won't go too far into detail, though, you could get this (and Going Commando) and watch the cutscenes and play.
Graphics: 4 The graphics just look better and better, now with more vibrant surroundings, more violent deaths and more colors around the worlds you have to go to. My main concern here is the fact that the explosions are more plentiful, and if they hurt your eyes, this will cause a fair lot of serizures. Turn your brightness down a fair bit before playing this.
Sound: 2 The voice acting is pretty cool and some of the sounds are pretty good. Maybe if the sound effect staff and the voice actors would get rid of those blankets and stop covering them up with sounds that make me want to pry out my ears, I would probably be able to give my ears something good.
Lifespan: 2 This is my main concern. Since this is fairly linear and only barely scratches the 18 hour mark, this might not last too long. There is a hard mode, but that is more of the same linear gameplay. There is online, but you will get sick of it in a couple of months. If you don't have online, this will last for little time. If you want to upgrade all weapons, get all Titanium Bolts, etc., it will range to around 30-40 hours since they're kind of hard to do. However, by the time you finish it the first time, you'll probably get sick of it due to the lack of something better to do than move and kill.
Funfactor: 3 I don't have online, but I hear that it's like playing the missions, only with weird soldiers instead of robots and no reinforcements. There is no gore or swearing, but that is maybe what makes the "humor" suffer a bit. See...if you want humor in a game, there needs to be some form of swearing or "middle finger". In some part of the game, someone asks for Clank and insults Ratchet. Ratchet should've given the guy the finger instead of just turning off the screen. Yes, this is for kids, but the kids need to learn of this stuff earlier than I did.
Bottom Line:
This mediocre series just hit a bump after Going Commando. Going Commando proved better than the original but this just proved to succeed little over the original but prove worse than Going Commando. Before getting this game, get Going Commando and enjoy that. Then you can try this one.
Many problems made this huge mission a 3.1/5.0 |

Coming to a Gadgetron Vendor near you.... | 4.8 0 comments |

Long term fans of the series will be a little disappointed by this game. At first. But then they will love it as much as the other games. There are slightly less weapons. You may think that's rubbish, but it's a brilliant idea! No more useless weapons! Only the good ones. (You'll know what I'm talking about when I say no hoverball gun...). There are a few features missing from this game. The popular grind boots, space fights and even the Hover-races! (They were cut because of time shortages). But one addition is the battle field levels. Wide open spaces with more then one way do complete the challenge! There are two vehicles you can use- The Turboslider (a fast car with a cannon, which will NEVER fall over) and the hovership (it's like a plane and a helicopter mixed together- I prefer the old plane fights myself!). And the cool retro style Quark Vid-comics (2D mini games that contain secrets about the plot). Also, you'll want to play it again and again! Theres so much to unlock! Mini-games, funny cheats and the secret 'Insomniac Museam' Level, with unincluded enemies, levels and all sorts! You may have been expecting more from this game. Then there's always multiplayer to make up for it! There are 10 levels to choose from, from all three of the games. There is a mode where you have to capture all the spawn points, a death match mode, and a mode where you have to get the enemy base. This can be done locally, or online. All in all, the story mode is better (but a TINY bit disapointing... this can be expected, as they made this in a year and had to sort out multiplayer) and the multiplayer is unlike any other game! Nice one, Insomniac Games!

My 5th best game! | 5.0 0 comments |
by T_Magdi from London, Greater London, T_Land | Apr 9, 2005 |
THE GOOD: Lots, exeptanly the weaponsTHE BAD: It odes get kinda overlacking, Its tooooo fun, man! SUMMARY: Alright. Ratchet and Clank was a great game but I did deserve 4.3. Going Camando was even better, 4.6.
But now, Insomatic's last game is coming high!
R&C3 Kicks ass! The title is boring for the UK because it only says 'Ratchet and Clank 3' I like the US title, Up Your Arsneal. Its like 3-in-one: Ass, Arse, Arsneal of weapons! Yeah. Also, whats better than weapons? It has more upgrades, more weapons and more gameplay power. Even if there is 8 weapons in multyplayer, relax! It's a BANG game!
Rank: Explosive Platform 5!
If I had a article, it would be "Ratchet kicks more ass than the other games. Its a stunner!" Nice, eh?
Also, the damage of weapons is realistic! POW, KABOOM and nice sound. Also theres good weapons from R&C2 and The origanal! The Bouncer and The Plasma Thingy is good. Againt of doom! Woohoo!
Also in the game, There are ace skins such as snowman. Cheats, Skill points and Stats are here too!
And now, the online play. I give this a 5 even if I haven't got one. It sounds fab, awsome and multyplayer rocks, too.
The graphics are less darker than Ratchet and Clank 1, but not from light Going Commando. People who hates this game, ONE thing is worser tan the previous. BOO!
Sound is kust what I tould. BANG, POW! UGHH, and + funny voices and sayings. I give Sound 4.9.
And now, lifespan and story. The lifespan is long and challanging, i give that one a 3. The story has a minicartoon 'Secret againt Clank' as a cartoon! Fun! And the news and atack about Vailen... MINT! 5.0!!!
Last of all the overall. Its cool, great, Gamespot loved it, Gamespy loved it, IGN loved it, It is a must buy game. Buy It straigt away. AND THE GOOD NEWS: Its still on sale!
End of review, NO! Tired, eh?
If Ratchet and Clank was versing Spyro, Ratchet would win. He is a weaponer, EP5 is hard to get but very great.
This my 5th game. It doesn't get any awards, but it is good for you anyway.
THE Multyplayer is fab. Its the first game, and I think the last game, so its a good end!
INSOMATIC SCORE: 10
I give this a:
5/5! 10/10! 98%!
Okay, that was long, but It is still going on!
I fogot, Jak v Ratchet, who would win? see my forum.
And Don't foret, its a must buy game!!
ENND NOW, NO!!
Too see my BEST game, search for it. Explosive Platform games ae Platform and Explosive games.
GENRE: Shooter DEV: Insomatic Games PUB: ??? FORMAT: Playstaition 2. NOT PLAYSTAITION 1!
Is it the end?? (I bet you are angry) Yes! It is the end after *end of review* So visit other reviews as you want, The longes review of them all! Buy it NOW!

The third is also the best! | 4.7 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -Lots of weapons and upgrades -online multiplayer -lots of levels -lots of unlockables -Fun to play through over and over -great graphicsTHE BAD: -Lots of repeat guns/ ideas for guns -No hover boarding or any race type things SUMMARY: The third game in the series drives our two heroes, Ratchet and Clank, to stop the evil Dr Nefarious. He is trying to make all of the galaxy robots. Ratchet and Clank find themselves meeting lots of familiar and new character in this excellent gameplay. They are loads of extras to do like get all of the skill points and obtain the all of the titanium bolts. Once you do all of this, you can find great secrets which are fun. My favorite feature of Ratchet and Clank 3 is the online gaming. It is excellent. There are three modes, all very good. Meet up with you chumps or make some new ones while playing it. |

THE GOOD: Weapons a plenty and weapon upgrades, tons of mini games, lots of things to do, Secret Agent Clank, funny, comical, great music, and sound, characters, and graphics.
Did I mention Multiplayer?THE BAD: .....eh? SUMMARY: The best Ratchet and Clank game in the series. No wonder in got the title of runner up game of the year!
This game is hilariously funny and entertaining. An incredible ammount of weapons, and weapon upgrades. This game adds a little humor to it as well as making it a great game to play. Multiplayer mode was a trip and a half. Incredible gFx, sound, music, gameplay, and one great storyline. The Quark Vid Comics were a great Edition as well. Dr. Nefarious was a great villian for the game. Courtney Gears, (Britney Spears in robot form) was a great character too. This game is the shit. I must day that it is one of the most greatest games I've ever seen. Go pick this up if you can. This game is everything and anything a Platform game should be. |

Another awesome game from Insomniac! | 4.5 0 comments |
by Kahvie from , , | Feb 9, 2005 |
THE GOOD: The comedy was pretty good. I also liked the fact that the main villian didn't annoy me as they usually do in games.THE BAD: A little too short. I would have also liked to see more planets and creatures native to those planets, as there was in R&C 2. SUMMARY: Overall, I would have to say that this game deserves a high 4 out of 5. Again, there were a few things that I would have like to see in this game, which mostly would include a longer story length, but it proved fun and would most likely satisfy the average trilogy-seeking gamer. In addition, there also seemed to be a lot of attention payed to art/background detail and character development, something rare, and not to mention underappreciated nowadays, and was awesome to get to see in this game! Definitly would reccomend this game! |
