While virtually identical to its predecessor, the total revamp of the battle system makes Devil Summoner 2 more than "more of the same." And the story, while lacking in voiced dialogue, is still filled with twists and turns; Raidou once again ends up battling another enemy that seems too big for his britches. It's still a unique way to present an RPG, and still comes highly recommended.
"If you haven't played the first Devil Summoner game, don't worry; you're not really missing a whole lot. There are a few nods to the original story and a few extras if you still have your save file. Aside from that, this is a great game for those new to this sub-series. "
"Shin Megami Tensei and Devil Summoner series fans, we shouldn't even need to say it: You need this game. Atlus has worked hard to improve every aspect of the first title in this sequel, and the result is a shining example of what happens when game developers listen to their user base."

"Also, the environments, albeit beautiful, have their moments of being truly frustrating. While exploring the Capitol and all of its individual regions, you not only have to pay to go to certain areas, but to reach some spaces within a given area, you have to go through screen after screen and spot after spot of exploration. It's just becomes tedious, especially since there aren't too many save points scattered around. You could find yourself running through each area for an hour or more, then have to find your way back – after not fighting anything or gaining any items – to a point when you have to give up your fruitless quest or save (just to add hours to your “official” play time)."

"Much like Raidou's opponents, the Devil Summoner series has a cult following and they will really enjoy this continuation of his adventures. Plus it still feels open enough to those who want to join the club, as it takes time to let newer players feel welcome. It isn't the prettiest game nor the easiest, but for the hardcore fans keeping the PS2 afloat and for those that want to join the effort, Devil Summoner 2 is worth the time."
