SUMMARY:
Ah, I remember the first time I saw the Bioshock Teaser. Now more than two years ago, it showed an absolutely creepy game with all the basics a horror game needed. It had little girls, A huge beast with a drill-screw for a hand, and even some good old fashioned shotgun action. Me being a PS3 owner, I had to wait 3 years instead of 2 for this masterpiece to come out. The game was worth the wait. On October 21, 2008 I was introduced to the exciting world of rapture.
You start out on a mysterious plane, not sure of your destination, when suddenly it crashes out in the middle of the Atlantic. You are the lone survivor, and as you climb back to the surface of the water, gasping for air, all that can be seen is a tower in front of you. Having no place else to go, I swam toward the immerse tower. I was greeted by a banner, "No gods or kings, only man" and from that moment I knew I was in for some frightening images.
Bioshock is classified as a action horror shooter, and for good reason, the game is not only huge, but the game has enough jumps and disturbing images to freak just about anyone out. You'll experience enemy's that disappear, or appear right in front of you. You will experience lights going on and off right when you need them to be on most, you will even get the classic "demonic girl" scare. Either way, Bioshock does a great job with this theme by keeping you alert and on your toes all the way through.
Bioshock has a storyline like no other, not just the plot I mentioned earlier either. You'll find over a hundred diaries. Telling stories of Raptures lost and forgotten scientist and madmen. You will also experience different characters, with all different crazy personalities. Each of these characters you meet will grip you and you won't want to let go, but you must. These characters have lived enough torture. (which you'll find out if you play it) At the heart of the game is the "little sisters". These are genetically mutated girls that are designed for only one thing. To collect Adam. Adam is what keeps rapture moving. It's what gives people power, call it a drug if you will, but everyone wants it, and everyone needs it. You can either harvest a little sister for all of the Adam, or save it and get partial Adam and a few rewards here and there. Either way, It's not as simple as just walking up and harvesting them, You will have to face a big Daddy in order to get to them. Big Daddys are a huge creature that looks like it's in a old divers suit. Using their gun, or drill, these are the hardest enemy's in the game, and you will have a load of fun dealing with them.
Bioshock has a pretty good collection of weapons. You'll start out with a wrench, and move on to bigger and better things like shotguns, flame throwers, and even grenade launchers. Each enemy is different and takes different bullets in different ways. But the best weapons of all, without a doubt, are the plasmids. Plasmids are powers that can be bought and upgraded with Adam, and they are well, just plain awesome. You can zap lightning, catch people on fire with the snap of your fingers, and even shoot hornets out of your arm as well. These make the game so different than any other game.
So, what else makes Bioshock so different? Well prepare for a living, breathing world, everything you do effects something that will happen later on. Anything can be used as a weapon, short on ammo? Use your telekinesis to rip a enemy's mask off and throw it back at them. See gas or fuel on the ground? Snap your fingers and before you know it all of your enemy's are burning. need some extra fire power? Hack a turret or camera, and it will work for you automatically, hands free. The possibilities are endless, and Bioshock is a open FPS, Will you choose to ride through the storyline, or stray away from the path and explore the hidden secrets of rapture? Either way, You will enjoy a amazing FPS experience that should not be missed. The game will start out slow, but trust me, it never stops getting faster once it builds up. Play Bioshock, rent it, buy it, I don't care. But if you love action, Bioshock is not one you'll wanna miss.
