THE GOOD: Good graphics. The game also uses the PSP's button configuration to an advantage (thrusts, missiles/guns...). Tunable planes. 4 paint schemes for each planes. Challenging missions, fun to play even when the player keeps dying. Realistic controls. Quite intriguing storyline. Missions with the Gleipir in it are really fun.THE BAD: Compared to The Belkan War, the story line lacks dynamic turns of event. Unimpressive AI. Plane controls do not differ from plane to plane, and the player won't really fell the difference between, say, an SU-37 and an F/A-22. The ADF-01 Falken and Fenrir are far too unrealistic. Some missions lack a ~slight~ amount of action, compared to HEATSEEKER. SUMMARY: Ace Combat X is really cool. To have. At any costs. There are all three axis controls for an aircraft (Pitch, Roll, Yaw) and players won't miss real life if they were placed in a world with only Ace Combat in it...
Breathtaking missions, cool executable stunts, and, very important, nice aircrafts, including the F-14D Super Tomcat, SU-37 Terminator, F/A-22 Raptor, C-5 Globe Master, KC-10, X-02 Wyvern and F-15 Eagle. The game keeps an interest in players even after they finished the game as there are lots of unlockables.
The way and order in which a player chooses missions affects the storyline, which gets the game yet more interesting. There are different unlockables for different mission combos. Also, just for kicks, players will very probably give their best to achieve an S rank for each mission.
AI though is quite annoyingly stupid, for those who played air combat games such as Lock-On, Ace Combat Zero, maybe even HEATSEEKER (I find it kinda hard to beat). Obviously, for others, the AI may be too advanced. It is possible to beat every enemy using a technique for each type of enemy (for Air-Air combat, there's one, for Air-Ground combat, there's another...) on every difficulty level, except Ace.
For those who played AC Zero, they'll surely be happy to know that there is not one, but eight lasers, similar to Excalibur. their combined efficacity is like there's only four though. This same laser can be found mounted on C-5s in certain missions, and you have to dodge them.
Controls are really user-friendly, but some might be afraid of damaging their PSP with the thrust up, thrust down/air brake controls. It really feels like you are braking when you press the L button. Really cool.
Some missions can get hard, but take it as an occasion to perfection yourself! LOL, if it helps. You can of course hear some enemies conversing with each other, and they can get real funny, so there'll be a distraction in-flight.
There's no reason NOT to own this game. At least, I don't see any... Happy gaming!
