THE GOOD:
The deep storyline with likeable characters and also deep gameplay makes this game ridicoulusly good. Its one of my favorite Final Fantasy games along with FF7 and FF8.

THE BAD:
When you move a character and you dont like that he was placed ther you cant move him back, this makes the game hard for newcommers to this kind of gameplay, not for noobs, seriously play some other tactical games before this one so you can get used to it like Vandal Hearts and Fire Emblem.

SUMMARY:
Final Fantasy games have always been turn based, turn based gameplay is when you have 3 or 4 of your charcters on one side of the field, while there are 3 0r 4 enemies on the other side. When its your turn you can attack and use items and whatnot. This time the well know and prestigous company Squaresoft have decided to try something very diffrent form their usual gameplay style. Now this game uses a gameplay called Tactical gameplay. This is very much like chess but it isnt as limited. Instead of peices you use people. Note that this kind of gameplay isnt for everyone. You have five characters on the field and you have a set number of enemies on the other side of the field. You have to find a way to get to them and attack them with any means necesarry, such as swords, staves, magic and many other things.

The game has a very deep storyline, it has to do with revolution and fighting against a currupt monarchy and so much more. Theere is no spoonfeeding when it comes to the storyline so dont say I didnt warn you. The main character is named Ramza Beuolve(you can change his name if you desire) and this is his story about historical truth. The gane also delves in the zodiac brave story. That is about the signs of the Zodiac, like me Iam a virgo. Before the game really starts they will ask you your birthday. depending on what sign you are it can greatly change the tides of battle or it may do nothing at all. Just check to see if this person is compatible with you and it will tell you how well you fight against them. I know sounds confusing but it really isnt.

In the game you can change classes and become stronger. When I say change classes I mean from turning from a Squire into a Knight or if you wish a Warlock, or a Priest, or a monk. As you play you will find many more job classes. When you fight in the game you recieve both experience points so you can level up and become stronger and you will recieve Job points so that you may learn new attacks or spells for that class you are in. You will also recive job level up, what that does is it opens up new classes to use. Such as getting Squire to level 2 will allow you to become a Knight and getting Chemist to level 2 will allow you to become a Warlock.

In the end this game you really cant go wrong at all. Though its not for begginers its still in my opinon the best tactical game I have ever played and it seems that unless Squaresoft decides to make a better sequel(I hated the FF Tactics for gameboy) its going to stay king for awhile. This is Zero and X and I say to buy this game right now or you shall miss all its heavenly glory.

THE GOOD:
Great job classes, good learning system, the cheapness(like using scream over and over again), the battle system, tough battles throughout the game, deep story, awesome characters.

THE BAD:
The cheapness(like using scream over and over again), the battle system, the optional characters can end up pretty much taking over your party

SUMMARY:
Final fantasy tactics really is one of the best final fantasys that I've played. The story is complex and I recommend playing the game a second time just to absorb more of it.

Moving around the world map is easy. As you go further into the story, more and more places will appear on the world map as dots and you can select a dot to go to. If you know the name of a place you want to go, you can just go to a menu and select that name and you will go to it. Random battles still occur on the world map though. If you're going to another place, you will have to follow a path of dots to get to it. one of those dots may have a random battle.

The story is full of twists and turns. People you save may turn against you later in the story. It is mainly about power and people using others. Infact, the amount of times the words, "use", "used" and "using" appear in this game is annoying. In the beginning of the game, you will be at Orbonne Monastery. After a battle, the main character, Ramza Belouve will be surprised to see an old friend of his and then you will go through a pretty long flash back, like in final fantasy VII. But unlike in VII, this flash back is pretty interesting and no matter how many times i play final fantasy tactics, i still like it. You'll be able to tell when the flash back is over because the symbol for Ramza on the world map will change.

The battles can be tough right throughout the game and if you're not careful losing one of your characters is quite easy, especially in late-game when you run into something people call super-battles. The game doesn't call them that but these really tough battles can have 11 monks or chocobo's in them.

The job system and learning system is quite good. You get jp after your character attacks or, in most cases, uses a tech. Jobs besides soldier and chemist require prerequisite jobs before you can obtain them.
This game could use a few more job classes but mastering a job class does take a while.

You can get cloud as a character in this game but he is generally slow and he starts at level 1 when you get him and by that time, your characters would be at least level 20. He's an alright character after you train him and learn his limits.

Like I said in "The Bad", optional characters can pretty much end up leaving your other characters useless(except Ramza because he's in all the story battles, I think). This doesn't mean that you should just neglect training your other characters of course. You won't be able to get most of the optional characters until very late in the game. You might not even like some of them so make sure that you keep your all your characters good in levels.
Your other characters can't become the job classes that the optional characters start off as in most cases so don't bother trying to turn one of them into an engineer or a holy knight.

The cheapness in this game is kind of like kotr in final fantasy VII. If you use it, you can win pretty easily but it doesn't show that you have skills. If you keep using yell(or later in the game, scream), you can just keep upping your stats until they reach a certain number. at that point, you'll be able to have several turns before the enemy takes even 1. This cheap tactic is best used when you're in battles where it's just Ramza and someone else. I think there are about 3 battles like that in the game. Equipping a gun makes this even better as guns have huge range and 100% accuracy(just make sure that there's nothing in between you and your target).

PSX  Final Fantasy Tactics Review 5.0

Final Fantasy Tactics is a strategic RPG for the PSX that spawned from the Final Fantasy franchise. FFT incorporated many new elements to the series that have not been seen from any FF game or for many tactical RPGs of it's time and really made the game in my opinion one of the best of the series.

First off the story, this is one of the deepest stories I experienced in my opinion. Mind you this game was done back in 98, back then there were not many games with such stories like this. You play as Ramza Belouve, a well respected young man from a noble family of knights. It's the start of the Lion War and you are joined by your best friend Delita to fight in it. The story expands from this in so many ways, fighting through sadness, betrayal and so on in a truly epic tale.

The gameplay really makes this game exceptional, mainly the job system. You are able to customize your characters, give them jobs and each job of course has it's own unique skill. Squires being the most basic and going as far as a Mime. Customize everything from your job, equipment and skills you use (and there are a lot). You can configure your army any way you wish and form your own unbeatable team. However, even if you configure your army very well that still doesn't assure you victory. Like the name of the game this revolves around tactics and in battle you'll need them. FFT has a great difficulty level sure to challenge any fan of strategy. The battles are turn based on a grid like battlefield which may sound simple but it isn't. Even leveling up to insane levels will not always aid you well as the enemies (all the monster types, not humans) adjust their levels to that of your party. So even random battles can be as difficult if not more difficult then story battles.

The music on this game is great, truly a masterpiece. From the opening theme on the music suits each scene and helps the atmosphere of the entire game. It's not the best music I have heard in a FF game but it is still top notch.

The cast of characters are great as well, each having their own personality and displaying them well as events unfold throughout the game. The plot twists also are great and there are a lot of them so be prepared. Even your friends can later turn into your enemy, but not to the point where you don't understand why. The plot twists are well understood as well as the mind set of each enemy. Really it all comes together very nicely.

Minigames are also present and accounted for like in any true FF title. From taking on jobs at bar to going on sidequests for certain extras in the game, FFT has enough to keep you satisfied from beginning to end.

All in all this game is great, truly great. The story, gameplay, music, characters and so on all come together perfectly in this classic title. In my opinion it is probably the second best FF title right behind FF7. Only problems I hear from others is it's too difficult and tough to understand, but that's one of the things that makes me enjoy it more. So I recommend this to any fan of the series, RPGs, strategy games, or just want to experience a unique game.

THE GOOD:
The graphics are great, the sounds are good, the music is ok but original, the gameplay is great better than the gameboy advance version, the abilities are cool because there is alot of magics, weapons, armors, and lots of stuff that have to do with the abilities.

THE BAD:
There really nothing wrong with this game except it's very difficult to play when it's hard.

SUMMARY:
This game is really cool. I like it a lot better than Final Fantasy VIII, IX, and the Gameboy Advance version of tactics. People sould play this game more often than the Gameboy Advance version. An old game came out on 1998, still great. Well... at least it's better than VIII, IX, and Advance version.

Graphics 5/5
Sounds 4.9/5
Music 4.7/5
Gameplay 4.8/5
Abilities 4.9/5
Overall 4.9/5

THE GOOD:
Numerous jobs/classes for you to utilize and learn tons of different skills. Sidequests which are fun and challenging give you new equipment.

THE BAD:
3/4 into the game you get a character called Cid who is insanely powerful. Not a hidden character, but you're given him. Made the game insanely easy if you choose to use him. 1 Disc Only and I just wished there was more to do in the game overall. Horrible translation in parts also.

SUMMARY:
I have to leave some more comments in order for this review to be complete, so all I can say is that if you do get this game and enjoy it, I reccomend Disgaea and La Pucelle Tactics for PSX2...Jeez, more comments are needed. So ..hmm, go check out Ogre Battle for Super Nintendo also if you like FFT. Yeah so so so yeh yeah fire fire

PSX  Tactics-- not for me! 4.5

Let me start off by saying that when I first rented this game, I was just about ready to smash it. I go to the video store, I pick up Alundra and, ooh, there's FF Tactics. So I get it, too, and after playing it about a half hour and being utterly decimated, I take it out and pop in Alundra. Well, I go to Wal-Mart, and when I come back, I decide to play FF Tactics to see if I can figure anything out. I get killed a couple more times, then... BOOM! I start getting it.

Now, if you don't like strategy games, and don't have some fair amount of patience, DO NOT play this game. If, however, you enjoy strategy and being able to customize your characters, this is a great game.

Graphics: 6

I personally didn't see anything spectacular here, it's alright, but nothing to go crazy over. The cut-scenes, however, are nice.

Sound: 6

Again, I don't really recall anything outstanding here. Maybe I was focused on the fighting, I dunno, but the music didn't really seem to draw any attention.

Control: 5

I don' care much for the control on this game. A lot of times I'll hit a direction, and the highlight will go where I don't want it to. That sucks. I found the zoom out and rotate functions to be not as useful as they could have been, and a lot of times I didn't get a clear view of the battlefield.

Story: 7

Pretty good, though I only made it about 8 hours into the game. I like the fact that all of chapter 1 is a flashback. The characters seem well-defined, and that's definitely a plus.

Challenge: 8

This is one of the hardest games I've ever played. Don't be surprised if you lose about half the time until you build up your levels and skills some. This is, in my opinion, one of the best things about this game, but it could ruin it for some people.

Fun Factor: 10

This is where it all comes in. The customization of your character, with the classes, male or female, and assigning of skills, is something I enjoy in a game. In a lot of ways, I had more fun doing this than with the gameplay. Even though I did it wrong, switching jobs too soon and not getting the right kinds of skills. A word of advice: Just because you can change jobs doesn't mean you should right away.

Overall: 7

If you're into strategy games, you should really enjoy this one. If not, you'll most likely hate it. Rent it first, then if you like it, buy it.

THE GOOD:
Nice story, good length, multiple classes, interesting battle system with a few elements from RPGs, nice "classic-like" graphics.

THE BAD:
Nothing that bad at all.

SUMMARY:
FFT is a great game where you fight in a turn based system. The order in which you attack is similar to that of FF7. There are many unique classes and skills allowing you to create a strong and unique team. This game's story is pretty good and it's long and entertaining. Also the game does not try to hook players with "stunning/amazing" graphics. Instead it has nice "classic-like" graphics which fit the game style perfectly. I suggest it to anybody who likes strategy games, RPGS, or the Final Fantasy series. So my final thing to say to you is if you get this game good luck. The beginning is pretty hard! I haven't beaten it yet but that's because I've had it for a week which shows you can find it in some stores.

THE GOOD:
Just about everything
Epic Storyline
Great Turn-Based Strategy System
engrossing game play (Addicting)
Music (you will get to know it well with the time you will put in on this one)
Job/Class System

THE BAD:
Have to be into Turn-Based Strategy, or you will find little to know fun in this

SUMMARY:
I didn't pick up a copy of this game untell it was a greatest hit. I'm sorry for that fact, This is one of the best games I'v played for a ps1 game. This review might be a tad bias on my part, because this is to date, my favorite game out there. I like it more then any ps2, xbox, or gamecube game I have ever played.

this is a Final Fantasy game, so you come in under the intention that this will fallow the rules most Final Fantasy games do. Well.. it does to an certain extent. You can ride chocobos, summon shiva, use a phoenix down, and cast fire, bolt, and ice.
The story goes in a pretty normal fashion for FF games as well. You play as Ramza Beoulve, who has to save the world for the evil powers that be. You go on a journy that takes Ramza from a young care free boy to a trouble grief ridden man. Along the way you make new friends and enemys. There is a large cast of characters like most rpg's.
The thing that sets this game apart from other Final Fantacy games is that fact that this is a tactics game. The battles are completely different. This also changes the whole feel of the game. Also there are only like 2 cinematics.

*^*If your into tactics games you will love this one. The best battle system I've play'd in a tactics game.

*^*The Story is complex, it treats you like an adult giving you serious things to think about. If you take the time to understand it, it is very rewarding.

*^*Grafics are good enough, they match the game and the look its going for. nice anime style

*^*Side Quests are great. They give you unique characters. One of the Charactes you have seen before in a different Final Fantasy Game.
(looking forward to the FFXII)

PSX  The True Final Fantasy Experience? 4.8

THE GOOD:
Almost Everything-Music,Character Work and such.

THE BAD:
Super-complex storyline.

SUMMARY:
As i sit on the coach playing this game, i get my frustrating times and good times. I'll basically tell you more about the game.

Storyline-3.5
This is one of the best storylines around! But why not a 4 or a 5? That's because it's too complex. And the chapters don't help that much. First you have a story of revenge, then about the church and tehn... what next? As i said, it's just too complex.

Graphics-4
The reason for just plain 4 is because.. come on! They're 2-D figures! No graphics needed!

Music-4.5
The music is awesome! It fits perfectly with the mood of the scene. Thsi wonderful music will astound you!

Character Work-4.5
This is pretty good character work here. Cute monsters and cool faces. The only question-why don't have noses? But still, truly awesome character work.

Misc-5
Saving is easy, the battle system is pretty cool too. You will also like the map that resembles the Legend of Mana system.

So you can see that this game is truly the king of Final Fantasy and the bomb! Hope this was useful.

THE GOOD:
Complex Storyline
Great Graphics

Very fun, Deep customization options...

19 different job classes... And 400 abilities...

Very Addictive... You will be playing this game for at least 20 hours...

THE BAD:
Well... I didn't find much wrong with this game...
I guess this would be difficult for young children...
The only problems I found, was that it was a little to short...lacked Sidequests... and sometimes it would start glitching and freeze...

SUMMARY:
Graphics : The graphics were great for it's time. Great 3-D landscape...

Sound: Great Music... Sound effects are also good...

Gameplay: The Job classes make you play the game over and over again... You can play for hours without getting bored... Getting all the abilities, weapons, and mastering every class takes a lot of time...

Replay Value: Great... Everytime you start a new game it's going to unique and different... Makes you keep coming for more...

Battle System: Very Good! More of a challenge than most Final Fantasy games... Won't get as bored with random encounters...

Conclusion : A great game...

A must get for all Final Fantasy or Strategy Fans...
