Batman: Arkham Asylum

SUMMARY:
If you don't have an attention span to read the whole of this review, I'll sum up Arkham Asylum here: brilliant. Looking at Rocksteady's creation it's a wonder at how some other great licenses can make awful games whilst others can be game of the year contenders. This definitely isn't the critically panned G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, nor is it the waste of Rorschach that was Watchmen: The End Is Nigh. It's an eight hour epic, with great characters, enemies and depth, that should and probably could be the best game thus far this year.

THE STORY - 18/20
It's the traditional affair - The Joker has escaped from Arkham, and Batman brings him back. However, the Dark Knight is heavily suspicious due to how easy the Joker gave in this time, so follows...

THE GOOD:
-Fantastic Graphics
-Top-notch voice acting (Mark Hamill's Joker is a revelation, and truly steals the show)
-Very well written story, incorporating themes and characters from almost 70 years of Batman lore
-Innovative combat: The "freeflow" combat system really makes the player feel like the total bad-ass martial arts master that the Dark Knight is
-Excellent stealth gameplay
-Very cool gadgets
-Truly excellent 'nightmare' sequences, courtesy of the Scarecrow
-Extra combat and stealth "challenge rooms", sure to provide a moderately high replay value and potential for future downloadable content

THE BAD:
I honestly didn't find much wrong with this game that is worth mentioning. The final boss fight seemed a bit anti-climactic when playing on normal difficulty, but was a much more satisfying challenge on hard difficulty. Truly my only disappointment was that the game had to end.
