SUMMARY:
I will tell you right off the bat- I never thought I would give a game a perfect 5/5, but this game was perfect in every way. From the soundtrack to the game-play, I was enjoying myself from start to finish. If you are a Guitar Hero fanatic, interested in Guitar, or are just looking for the game to start you off in the Guitar Hero series- this game will start you off. Here's a detailed breakdown of the game:
Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay has improved dramatically from the previous three games. The Guitar itself feels so much smoother to use, and the notes are much easier to hit. The hammer-on and pull-off timing window has been increased, so they feel much smoother when you hit them. The notes that are hammer-ons and pull-offs are no longer based on timing, but they are now based on whether or not they would be a hammer-on or a pull-off on an actual guitar. You'll be rocking out to 71 brand new songs each time and enjoying it each time!
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics were great. Sure, they were not Halo 3 great, but how good can graphics get with clay models and colorful buttons? The graphics were amazingly done for a Guitar Hero game, the notes were much sharper and the characters looked much more realistic. It was easier to tell the difference between a regular note and a hammer-on or pull-off than it was in the previous 3 games.
Music/Soundtrack: 10/10
The songs in this game were amazing, with over 50% of the career songs being a master track and over 70% of the total songs being the actual song, it's almost impossible to say, "This does not sound like the actual song", because usually it will be the actual song! The song choices were amazing, and I was having fun rocking out to each and every one of them. There were also a lot more tracks I knew in this game then in the previous games (Rock and Roll All Nite, Through the Fire and Flames, One, Welcome to the Jungle, just to name a few). Each note-chart was set up very nicely and very professionally.
Storyline: 10/10
You can't really have a really large story-line in a game like this, but they really out-did themselves. You start off playing in your backyard, just like any band starts off. You then begin to move up the ranks, from going to bars to jails, to a large dome arena, and even to hell itself! There are now tiny cinematics featuring cartoon characters which portray your band after clearing a venue, and they do have a story to tell. They don't speak, but you can tell what is going on in the cinematics.
Online: 10/10
I believe online deserved its own section since online is what really separated Guitar Hero III from its prior games. The online is just fantastic, there is no lag at all unless you have a poor connection, and your connection only drags you down and not your opponent's/friend's, and vice-versa. You can play every single aspect online that you can play with a friend in real life, with the exception of co-op career. Never fear, for there is still co-op quick play! The leader-boards are still as strong as ever, and will let you see where you rank up against fellow rockers.
Overall: 50/50
The newest Guitar Hero game and certainly the best Guitar Hero game is worth every single penny you pay for it, with or without the guitar. The amazing soundtrack, the fantastic online play, and excellent game-play are just some of the many reasons that makes this game one of the best out on the market, if not the best. You'll be replaying this game and setting goals for yourself every moment, and you will not regret it.
