After playing the first 4x4 EVO, which I admit was actually an above average off-roader, I wondered if the series warranted a sequel. After playing the original, and beating it in less than a week, I was quite skeptical of the way they "rushed," and I do believe that in the nicest way possible, when EVO 2 came out on the shelves.
Gameplay:
The gameplay in this off-roader actually isn't as bad as some people may give it credit for. Sure, the game doesn't last very long, but that sometimes isn't bad, considering when some games are long, they often ramble. Anyways, even though there isn't that many SUVS and trucks here, it still is worth a go every once in a while, considering some of these off-roaders are in your's, or in some of your parent's driveways.
Graphics:
G.O.D. actually did a pretty good job in the graphics department, but some of the backgrounds I do admit need some serious tuning. Now, even though this is an XBox review, I will say that this game, in terms of graphics, topples over half of the games released thus far for the XBox. Even though this is just a minor adjustment from some of the problems in the first EVO, the graphics are really impressive, even if this game felt very rushed.
Sound:
4x4 EVO offers pretty good sound in terms of the trucks and SUVs to their real life counterparts, but the soundtrack has to be one of the worst ones on a racing game for the XBox system. There is only a little selection to it, and the audio appears to be messed up, but that is just my opinion, and let's leave it at that.
Replay Value (Lifespan):
This is one of those games that will at some time make you anxious to play again; that is, if you haven't already traded, or sold it already. It really depends on what kind of racing level you are at. If you are a racing freak like I am, you might want to play it with your friends once in a while, but if you are at a lower level of racing interest, I doubt you will keep it once you beat it, even if you do have the patience to beat it.
Multiplayer:
Not much to speak of here. You can race against your friends, and that is mostly it. There isn't anything else by my knowledge that you can do other than race solo, but also note that I got this game quite a while back, so I wouldn't quite remember exactly if you can do anything else, so please don't say anything about that.
Overall:
Well, what is there to say. Like it says in the title, it makes you sometimes want to play it again, but at most other times, you would love to throw it away, and perhaps set on fire. If you think about it, this game may be an okay rent, considering you will likely be able to finish this game before you take it back. I don't think it is a good idea to buy, but hey, this is just my voice.
