THE GOOD: Good level design, great story and great use of rumours surrounding area 51.THE BAD: Lack of enemies, graphics not quite up to scratch and weapons a little under powered. SUMMARY: All in all Area 51 is a good game but not quite great. The story begins with you, Ethan Cole and hazmat team bravo being called in to rescue hazmat team delta and figure out what's going on, but soon your team gets picked off one by one and you're all alone. It's a straight forward FPS that's linear in design with a shoot to kill mentality and doesen't try to be anything else. The weapons are a bit disapointing and under powered. You start with the m-11 "scorpion" pistol and soon grab the xm-32 "viper" assault rifle. Then as you progress through the game you will pick up the usual FPS arsenal - m-170 "hammer" combat shotgun, sr-125 "wraith" special purpose rifle (sniper), m-25 frag grenade and the an/peq-61 "quickfix" scanner which is used to scan various objects/documents throughout the game which unlock "databank" items and secrets, but what makes the game a bit more interesting is the alien weaponry - BBG (kind of alien assault rifle), meson cannon and the JB grenade. But even so, the alien weapons and some of the usual weapons feel abit under powered, resulting in using the assault rifle for most of the game. The game's levels are fantastic and well thought out and the archetecture changes the deeper you go, you'll even have to fight aliens while on the set of the fake moon landings. The story kept me interested from begining to end with some great voice overs from David Duchovny, Powers Booth and Marilyn Manson, it is 18 chapters in all, taking myself about 15-20 hours to complete but I didn't manage to get all the databank items or secrets, so in that sense it does have replay value as I will play it again to complete it 100%. The creatures are designed by Stan Winston and Stan Winston Studios and they do a great job but I wished there could of been more of them with only about 6/7 different types but they do add atmosphere to the game The graphics are average but with some real flair as you enter the Gray's base but over all are nothing to write home about, there was no noticeable frame rate drop so the game ran smoothly. One of the best ideas in the game is the scanner which is used to scan certain objects/documents which then open databank items and secrets in the main menu, the databank items are extracts of letters/documents etc which really do make you think, as these are direct from the rumour mill of Area 51 and I'm sure if you looked on the internet you could find something about them somewhere. The secrets are unlocked for finding all 5 databank items in a level and are Dr Cray's diary and Mr White's Illuminati videos, which add a little depth to both these characters. Overall Area 51 is a solid game and most important of all is enjoyable, it's linear and can be basic at times but there is nothing wrong with that, if you like your FPS it's a must for anybodies collection. It didn't quite make 4 and above but a score of 3.9 is very respectable and is very nearly worth killing for!!! |

Fresh Underwear PLEASE! | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: The game has one of the greatest storylines of all videogaming time. The voice acting is superb, second only to KOTOR in that respect. You will have a few laughs before you're done, as well as a few changes of underoos. This title is like Halo's and Resident Evil's love child, great gameplay(inherited from Halo) and soil yourself scary(inherited from Resident Evil). The realistic nature of this game makes it the shocking and spectacular sci-fi title of the year(so far). THE BAD: The only notable negative would be the amount of weapons you have to select from(8). That number includes 2 different types of grenades as well. SUMMARY: With all the conspiracies and secrets this game contains, it earns your money like only a few select titles have. There are plenty of extras that will supply you with great entertainment for quite a while. These are your weapons: pistol(accurate and good for headshots, 8-round mag), assault rifle(30-round mag, full auto, good for suppressive fire), shotgun(devastating in close quarters, 10-round shells), sniper rifle(good for tactical situations only, 6-round mag), BBG(alien 3-round burst rifle, 50-round capacity, it takes particles out of the air to recharge itself), meson cannon(alien version of a rocket launcher, 1-round capacity, recharges itself in the same fashion that the BBG does), frag grenade(basic frag), jb grenade(experimental grenade). For those of you that have played Halo1-2, the BBG is like a cross breed of a Needler, Assault Rifle, and Plasma Rifle. For those of you that haven't played Halo, this weapon kicks @$$. The voice acting features David Duchovny, Powers Boothe, and the ever creepy Marylyn Manson. This game is very intense and some language isn't for kids; this title lives up to it's M rating. Your enemies are horrific, lethal, and smart. I haven't beaten the game yet but I can say that there are at least 13 levels(probably more) that will amaze you with the game's architectureal beauty and will keep your body tense with excitement long after you put down your controller. This game is a must have and while I wouldn't advise selling any copy of Halo 1 or 2, I would trade some games in if I didn't have the cash. |

THE GOOD: The graphics are top-noch but sometimes they seem to be twitchy, but i think its my TV, the guns r sweet, the AI seems to be somewhat intelligent, its based off of the government's most secretive military base and my favorite rumor holder, if u pre-ordered it it comes with Midway Arcade treasures 2!THE BAD: well im not too far into the game yet but so far ive been relying on my SMP alittle too much and i havent found the shotgun yet, the graphics could be alittle bit better during certain parts, and maybe a few more things i cant point out yet. SUMMARY: Well so far i love the game, i just wish i could find the friggin shotgun David Duchovny does a good job narrating the main character. Havent seen Edgar yet so i dont know how Manson is doing with the part. and i havent played on XBL cuz i havent had time to play on live, so far i think its alot more interesting then Halo 1 & 2, sometimes ur fellow Hazmats rely on u alittle too much, making u go grab something by urself and then constanly naggin for u to come back right away. If you have the Money buy the game, if u dont, trade in Halo 2 and some other games and buy the game!!!! TRUST ME, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!! |
