Enter the Matrix | 4.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -The graphics are pretty good. -The fighting is awesome. -The moves you can perform. -It realates somewhat to the movie. -The weapons are pretty good too. -The real exclusive film footage.
THE BAD: -You can't be Neo Morpheus or Trinity. -It's driving levels are boring and too long. -The levels go easy to hard real quick. SUMMARY: This fighting game is great if you enjoy the games of hand-to-hand combat. The characters you start with are Niobe and Ghost. You fight through tons of levels trying to stop the war of the sentinels. The game includes all the agents including the new Smith. Hacking on the start menu lets you put in a load of cool cheats. Fight youre way through the game using many different, authentic weapons and moves of the movie. Use focus(slow motion) to find more move for you're character. The one horrible thing about the game is that there is almost no difference in the role of the two characters. Thats the reason why i gave it a 4 and not a 5. But if the roles would be completely different this would be the best shooter of all time for the XBOX and i still recomend this game for anyone that is a Matrix fan or just likes the action of this kind of game. |

THE GOOD: Fighting was pretty dope. Focus was really great.THE BAD: Some of it was too hard for me. SUMMARY: The soryline I dont really know anything about at all as I only played it about 10 stages in. I rented the game and I am glad that I did. Im not saying its that bad but that its the type that you shouldnt pay more than 25 dolla fo. It is a good game, the hand to hand is really great once you learn a few special moves like jumping off the wall and doing cartwheels while firing your gun. I suggest that you rent it before buying as this is the type that you either hate or love. |

THE GOOD: Helps to give you a firm grasp of the turn of events in the Matrix trilogy. Bullet-time definitely has the right feel, and there are entrancing in-game filmed cinematics. Outstanding sound effects.THE BAD: Lots of technical difficulties, rough graphical edges, skimpy design, and simply bad visuals. Strict released date policies are what really destroyed this game. SUMMARY: Enter the Matrix... Keep in mind that I'm an extreme Matrix fan, so this review comes from my heart. The Wachowski brothers (Directors and writers of the Matrix) decided to make a movie to game transition that would be revolutionary, and it was. But it simply ends there. Yes, there were great sound effects, and yes there were filmed cinematics. But these simply break your heart even more, to know how much they were wasted. The game is comparable to Pulse Racer in the field of graphical technicalities. Postition your character next to a wall, and you'll find out that Matrix characters suddenly have the ability to become transparent and be half-way into a wall. If you jump, you'll feel like Arnold Shwartzzennegar in the Barbarian. The physical movements are chalky, especially the running. If you shoot an object, it will float in the air. The game feels like a 2D plane. Also, the controls are unacceptably hard to learn, and their isn't even an elaborate plethora of moves.
There are some good elements to this game as well. Slow motion (bullet-time) fully captures the feeling of being in the Matrix, and it's especially fun to backflip while watching a group of bullets whizz past you. Transitioning between kung-fu hand to hand combat and weapons combat is seamless, especially when you string a combo together using both modes. The character models are well designed. As most of you know, cinematics were actually filmed during the filming of the motion picture the Matrix Reloaded, allowing for the true Matrix feeling.
All in all, this game is an extreme disappointment. It could have been patched up if only it had a few more months, but the strict May 15 release date (same as Reloaded) wouldn't allow it. Players that are captured by the backflip pummeling will quickly snap out of after watching your character move through a wall as if it was nonexistent. For fans like me, still at least rent this game, because it is interesting to watch the side-plot that takes place during the Matrix Reloaded. I rate this game a 1.5, mostly due to rushing out the door, and miss-calculation.

Enter Reloaded | 4.1 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Focus is an amazing feature, hacking makes cheating worthwhile, great storyline, weaves in and out of "The Matrix Reloaded", movie scenes carry the game and story very wellTHE BAD: graphics are barely above par (a disappointment when youre speaking of the matrix), last few levels are hideously pointless, CGI cut scenes are rather poor. SUMMARY: Although the mainstay of the game is to basically get a "behind the scenes" look at Reloaded, the almost complete abscence of the Neb's crew is kinda disheartening. The game takes you far enough down the rabbit hole for you to realize there is plenty more where that came from. The explanation of folklore (vampires, werewolves) is very interesting and pretty cool. The lesbian kiss was a rather oddball occurance, coming, for me, totally out of left field. All in all, i cant wait to see "Revolutions" and i cant wait to play the sequel to this game. The trailer was awesome and way cooler and more revealing than the one at the end of "Reloaded". |

This one hurt | 2.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: hmmm...fighting is ok, and hacking is somewhat amusingTHE BAD: graphics(decent), models, missions/objectives,BUTTON-MASHER, Driving.....(to name a few) SUMMARY: Ouch, this one hit me where it hurts. I was expecting something break-thru, or at least some really sweet graphics, but came up with a game that isn't even quite your average FPS. The missions are extremely boring, and the objectives, very stupid. It think the developers took the wrong route when not allowing you to play as the main characters like Neo, trinity or Morpheus. The game seemed rushed, like it wasn't really ready for a full release yet. Somethings seemed just unfinished. Like in the the level where you are supposed to retrieve the flashlight from under the bridge, there is no flashlight model, it simply looks like a gun, and no flashlight is added to yor inventory, just all of a sudden there is a faint glow in front of you when you draw a gun. That's questionable. What really makes me mad is how you never get to preform the "daring" escapes yourself, you just get a cut scene showing it happen. The last final levels were VERY dissapointing as well. As ghost you are a gunner, and as Niobe you pilot the logos, but you don't really have to do anything as Niobe, but accelerate, and as ghost just shoot at the little dots they are trying to pass of as sentinels. You judt keep going, then all of a sudden it's the end. That has got o be the worst ending ever. This game was very dissapointing over all, and definitley nothing special, NOW I'm done fuming. |

THE GOOD: True to the movie. Awesome moves. Cool sub games. Great replay value.THE BAD: A little short. Driving levels aren't the best. SUMMARY: I love this game. It was actually written by the Wachowski brothers, the writers of the film. The game story is designed to run in parallel with story of 'The Matrix: reloaded'. It follows the actions of Niobe, Morpheus' ex-love and Ghost, Niobes 2nd in command. This games includes real movie footage that won't be seen anywhere else as it was shot specifiaclly for this game, using the real actors from the movie.
The hand to hand fighting animation is excellent. This is where the replay value comes in. You just wanna keep kickin ass even when you've finished the game. There is also a wide selection of firearms to use. From double pistols to M16s to grenade launchers. There is even a legitimate cheat to enable a sword!
Speaking of cheats, EtM features a 'hacking' menu. This is a very innovative means of accessing secrets.
Focus, is the games 'bullet time' and is the icing on the cake. Not only is there some fantastic fighting and gun play, but you can do it slow mo aswell. Focus also allows you to 'bend the rules', like running up walls and leaaping impossible distances.
Controls are intuitive, with a button for kick, punch and counter. It's surprising how many cool moves you can pull off with just those buttons.
There are driving levels which aren't as good as they could have been. And the game can be completed within a day. But the game can be replayed as the alternate character, either Niobe or Ghost, and surprisingly each character has unique moves/styles and some differant levels, so they don't play exactly the same.
All in all, a great game which is a must have if you're a fan of the movie. I can most liken it to Max Payne, but with awesome hand to hand martial arts and reality bending 'focus' effects.

Which part will you play? | 3.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Where to begin. The graphics is an eye pooper. The fighting is a favorite of mine and plot is most excellant. The action is real limitless and fun.THE BAD: Its hard to get use to the controls but when you play enough its a peace of cake. SUMMARY: In this game you play Niobes and Ghosts story in the Matrix Reloaded. While Neo and Morpheus are doing their thing, you are doing something else. But all in the end, it comes down to where you must help Neo get to the Archutect. The fighting, as I said before, is one of my favorite things. Thats because you can focus, trip them, then punch them in mind air and doing a lot of other cool tricks. Plus you all the guns. You have many selections from a pistol to a sniper rifle to even a cannon which sucks all the oxygen from the room. In this game you have to choose, Niobe or Ghosts. In the beggining they play the same role, but later on they have different parts. But you cant cheat easliy with this game. You must do some hacking to so and its not fun at all All and all, I say buy this game cause its a game that you will be addicted to. |

Living in a Virtual Reality | 4.0 0 comments |
by Treker4747 from , , | May 26, 2003 |
THE GOOD: Bullet-Time stunts, Live-Action Videos, 2 playable characters and an emersive experence.THE BAD: Somewhat cheap looking cut-scenes, awkward controls, and no playable "main" characters from the films. SUMMARY: "Enter the Matrix" is a pretty emersive experence, that goes where no movie-based game has gone before. That being into sub-characters, and introducing a "canonical" story line for the films it's based on.
This game takes place before, and during, the Matrix sequel ("The Matrix Reloaded" now in theaters) by following two background characters from the second film in their own experences during the time period.
You can choose to play either Niboe or Ghost, two rebels fighting machines inside a virtual world inorder to save humanity, Each character has different skills (Niobe tends to be better at hand-to-hand, Ghost at weapons) different moves they'll pull of in fights, and sometimes play different roles in the game's levels.
Probably the best feature of the game is being able to use the "bullet time" (called Focus in the game) to pull off gravity0defying stunts and to slow down time to fight the characters. You can, for instance, run on a wall, jump off it and kick someone... do a flip off a wall, or even make humanly-impossible long jumps.
For the most party you'll fight gaurds, police, and FBI agents who'll normaly be knocked out with a few shots but fighting them can prove to be fun. You will also "fight" Agents who cannot be shot, or killed, so it is often best to run away from, them.
In between levels you're often treated to live-action scenes filmed during the making of the movie and in some cases scenes FROM the movie. These are short, and often followed by some of the worst CGI cut scenes I've seen in a game. But given the space ful-res video takes up, I can see why.
The controls often tend to be a bit awkward as would be the case in a game with so many moves and abilities, you may just find your self hitting buttons, and seeing your character do something neat with no real idea how to repeat it. It would have been nice to be given a training level to practice with.
All in all, it's a fun game and sure to bring another chapter of greatness to The Matrix mythos.

THE GOOD: The gameplay, the live action FMVs shot just for it.THE BAD: No two player mode is readily available. Multiplayer takes too long to hack. SUMMARY: I wasn't really a huge fan of the Matrix series until I saw Reloaded and played the game. Now I'm hooked I'm glad that you don't play as any one from the Neb that would get boring fast. I like the focus that allows you to do the sweet moves from the movie and other things like the super jumps and the wall rides. I would recommend this game to any one that likes the Matrix or a good first person shooter. I also like the hacking section it makes getting the extra stuff a lot more challenging that just going to a cheat page and typing it in. It makes you think a lot more and it really gets you into the mood of the game and it shows you what the Matrix really is. |
