THE GOOD: ~The 2 large cities ~The cool cars ~Lots of modes to play in ~The graphics (the detail)THE BAD: ~The music ~The glitches SUMMARY: At first this game looked crap, though when I saw a person rampaging through the city in a Garbage truck I knew I was going to love this game.
This has to be one of the most fun and enjoyable car/racing games out there. It is not a totally serious game in where you have tracks to follow. As the 2 enormous levels; Washington DC and Paris there is no linear play here. So when you are playing a mission you have the freedom to go anywhere you want.
The graphics at first were a bit dodgy, but you become accustomed to it. After a while you will notice the detail the game makers (DICE) have put into the game. The pedestrians have been created well and the cars you find in the cities. Though in the background you'll notice that the cars are moving in a jerky way. The rain on the roads is exceptionally detailed where; when your car drives you can see the rain pattern splitting creating a cool affect. This is one of the many details you can find in the graphics.
The vehicles in the game vary dramatically, as you can drive around in a school bus or take the roads with a fire truck, or chase people around in a cop car, drive real low to the ground in a mini, or zoom along the streets in a flashy red dodge viper. There are over 35 cars in total that will keep you occupied for quite some time.
In the game you will be able to find paint jobs that adds more appeal to your favourite car of choice. Some of these will be easy to get whilst others will be extremely hard to get. For some of them you will need to jump up high off ramps or go down hard to find alleys to get them. As there are a lot of them it just adds more things to do.
There are many modes in which you can pick to play the game. They consist of; Under cover work, Cruise mode, Blitz and Checkpoint. Lets start off with the most fun of all, Cruise mode. Cruise is where you have complete freedom to do what ever you want, like roam around the whole of the city exploring all that there is, causing traffic jams, running into cars, damaging every light post you can find, look for paint jobs, act like a normal humane person on the roads where you follow all the laws etc. There is so much to do. Also in Cruise you can change the settings of the pedestrian level from none to very heavy (meaning there's lots of people). Change the traffic levels from none to very heavy (the more, the more fun and messier). Change the whether like snowing, rain and sunshine. The seasons, summer, autumn, Winter and Spring. And you can also change the time of day; Morning, noon, evening and night. You can also adjust how many cops there are so when you are caught speeding they will chase you, there is a maximum of 4 cop cars. You don't have to have cops chasing you.
Working under cover is an option where you have different missions to do in the 2 cities. In Washington DC you'll do such things as a pizza delivery guy, a cop, a sales person, a limo driver, a detective and much more. In Paris you can be a delivery guy, an ambulance driver, a police officer, a taxi driver and much more. In these missions you will have to face some competition, as you need to prove that you are the guy to hire for the job. This competition will eventually get out of hand and will be taken very seriously which adds a bit of challenge to the game. Each job will consist of 4 missions except for the last as that has 3 missions.
Blitz is another mode where you must complete a circuit within a certain amount of time. In this mode you are still free to roam around and take any route that you feel more comfortable with instead of going with the suggested route. If you’re in a slower vehicle it means that the time to complete the circuit in is longer, so if you have a faster car it means that the time is shorter.
Checkpoint says it all. Yes it is a checkpoint race where you have to get to a certain checkpoint in time. Very simple.
The music overall isn't that great but the good thing is that this game lets you have your own music to cruise down the streets with. But sometimes it might repeat the same soundtracks. The sound is good with no real flaws.
The in game glitches aren't much but they are annoying. Say if you were to look left then face the front for a split second the buildings may go white (but not all the time, and not all buildings).
The multiplayer in the game isn't totally the best multiplayer around but it's ok. The downfall to the multiplayer on the xbox is that there is no traffic and no cops.
Results:
Game play: 9 /10 Graphics: 8 /10 Sound: 7 /10 Replay value: 8.5 /10
Overall: 8.1 /10 - 4.1 /5
Overall this is an enjoyable game that is well worth getting as you can easily play it over and over and over again and it will still be fun.

A delightful romp, if not a truly insane one | 3.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Lots of cars, big citiesTHE BAD: Not as good as Midnight Club II SUMMARY: Midtown Madness 3 has the misfortune of hitting Xbox alongside the excellent Midnight Club II(which, ironically, was developed by the team behind the original PC Madness games). In the realm of blazing, city-based aauto action, Club easily overtakes MM3 in terms of visuals, variety, and pure, visceral speed. That's not to say that this is a bad game. It's just second best. The collosal cities(Washington D.C. snd Paris) are quite fun to explore, and there's no shortage of snazzy cars and trucks to drive. It's certainly simple to pick up and play, though it may be a bit too easy--if you're seeking tense races requiring finesse, you should look elsewhere. MM3 isn't just racing--you'll motor through tons of different missions(including driving a taxi, or delivering money in an armored car). This helps keep the game fresh for a while, but it's no substitute for the flat-out driving competition of Rockstar's title. Dont buy this unless you've already played the hell out of Midnight Club II. |

THE GOOD: you can have your onw soundtracks in the game, so is it makes for good times crusin around (or rasing around) listing to music that you actuly like. theres downlaodable content, 2 citys, washington DC, wich has big, straight roads, and paris, wich has lots of small curvy roads, both citys are good, and both are BIG. they resemble the actulal citys in real life.THE BAD: theres not much bad about this game excet you cant have a guest when you play online, wich sucks. in the single player, theres people walking around, but online theres non. SUMMARY: this is a good game, the only draw back is that you cant have a guest online. the download content is great (so far, 4 car packs, and 2 race courses)
in single player, you can find paintjobs, wich add diffrent color to your car, then use them online, wich is cool. |

Death By Car.... | 4.8 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -------------------
-------------------
-------------------
-------------------THE BAD: -------------------
-------------------
-------------------
------------------- SUMMARY: This game features 34 amazing cars, most of them high-performance cars, but some are civilian cars and there are some..... larger vehicles.
There are a plethora of missions that you can accomplish, all of them timed (hey, its a racing game) there are missions where you race against other racers, some are just timed checkpoints, and there are other missions like ambulance missions, cop missions, chaueffer missions, the like. The only bad thing about this is that there are only 2 cities, as huge as they are. Both are distinct, but because there are only 2 thats what brings it down. |

Madness of the Midtown Variety... 3 | 5.0 0 comments |
by Tehuti from Portsmouth, Hampshire, England | Aug 2, 2003 |
Microsoft's game studios have come up with a couple of fine games in their time, which were for release on the PC. Now that the Xbox has come along, it shares these games. Midtown Madness 3 is one of these, and it will easily be one of the games of the year. MM3 is the type of game, that us gamers can't wait to arrive. It has everything: online play/multiplayer, great graphics, a decent single player game, and it is just pure fun.
Playing by yourself can take a little time, I myself completed the single player/undercover mode in about a week, in both cities. Don't let this put you off, it is a challenge, but luckily I had a fair bit of free time on my hands when I bought this. Undercover Mode sees you working as an detective in Washington and as an undercover officer in Paris; these are basically missions, ie checkpoint races, chases, things like that. There are 54 of these in all, meaning 27 in each city. The other single player option is, the, well, Single Player mode. This is where you can either; Cruise (Just drive around the city, do what you like, look for hiding spots, collect Paint Jobs, ect), Blitz races (where you have to finish the checkpoint circuit before time runs out) and actual Checkpoint Races (this is where you are racing for checkpoints against opponants). Each one is extreamly well done, and there is a good variety in the races. With me, this lasted me just over a week, but, again, this could be different with you.
Multiplayer. This game is more than capable to become a deffination of this word. The multiplayer is fantastic. You first have the option to play on Xbox Live, Split Screen or on a System Link. On split screen, you only have the option to choose a checkpoint race or to cruise. This is quite fun, but once you have done them all, well, you have done them all. Xbox Live is where this title really comes in to it's own. There are a lot more game options then you can have with split screen, along with the ones you can get. Hunter is where there are a group of you driving in normal cars of your choise, and someone is in a police car. This person will need to touch one of the others for them to become a hunter. Once you have been touched, you have to do the same for everyone else, and in the end, there are a load of hunters/police trying to catch one other person. Capture the Gold, this is where you/your team, will need to get to the gold (spawned randomly on the map) by driving through it, and driving back to base to score a point. Tag, this works as normal tag, there is a time limit, and if you are tagged, and can't touch anyone else before time runs out, then you are out of the game. Stayaway, this is just reverse tag, you get the "rabbit" when you touch the person with the rabbit, then you have to try and not get touched, untill the timer runs out, then you have won. This can also be done in teamplay. I cannot stress enough how much fun this game is on multiplayer, you can honestly play it for hours on end. There are a good selection of voice masks too, if you are in to that kind of thing...
The gameplay is very comfortable. The two triggers are accelerate and brake, with the left analogue used for steering. The remaining buttons and analogue is used for lights, the horn, looking to your side ect.
The cars look stunning on this game, the graphics are exceptionally well done. The vast spans of each city are vividally detailed, as are the cars. Lighting effects, everything, it is all far better then most games of this type.
Midtown Madness 3 is an action-packed, fun-filled game, that'll be playable till the next game comes out. If you buy this, I seriously recommend you get Xbox Live (if you haven't already) because it is simply the best game available to play on Live now, so buckle up.
