Here's a brief explanation of the main characters for beginners. =D

Professor Layton: A world re-owned archaeologist, scholar, and puzzle master, the professor's skill for cracking the toughest riddles has put his name in the papers many times.

Luke: Professor Layton's enthusiastic and wide-eyed assistant.

Lady Dahlia: The widow of Baron Reinhold and author of the letter requesting the professor's presence in St. Mystere. Though haughty, Lady Dahlia is rumored to have a sweet side as well.

Gordon: The late Baron Reinhold's wealthy and stingy brother. Perhaps it's this side of him that keeps him single and constantly fretting over finding a mate.

Simon: Baron Reinhold's stuck-up nephew.

Ramon: Reinhold's Manor laziest and flamboyant servant.

Matthew: The Reinhold's family's faithful and long suffering butler.

Claudia: Lady Dahlia's beloved feline companion.

Inspector Chelmey: The gruff policeman assigned to investigate a case in the village. He is stubborn and cocky, but his skills as a detective are so revered in London that the very sound of his name makes the criminals tremble.

Mysterious Woman: Though this girl may seem to know more about the village than any else, nobody seems to know who she is or where she's from.

You can collect various pieces of furniture as a prize for solving certain puzzles. There are 30 in all, and you can either place them in Layton or Luke's room. The items increase the happiness of the characters, and when entirely filled, you unlock the Decorator's House.

Luke gets 12 of the items; Layton gets 18.

Give Luke:

- Desk

- Violin

Layton gets the rest.
