THE GOOD:
Very high transfer rates, up to 45 MB/s read speed and up to 38 MB/s write speed.
Tested with winbech 99 and time to transfer from scsi raid to the disk in FAT 32 20 GB with 15 GB uncompressed AVI made from a DVD rip.

THE BAD:
Acces time is still as every HDD in market with 7200 rpm. CPU level somewhat high.

SUMMARY:
A very good performing disc, with high input/output, very reliable. Three and a half year and on.
This disk, sometimes, has been on and operating for almost 5 days. As reliable as any of my scsi drives (IBM and Fujitsu).

THE GOOD:
Fast, when they work

THE BAD:
They die at the blink of an eye. 12 out of 20 dead in 6 weeks A couple of the new replacements have even died.

SUMMARY:
They simply quit spinning. They most often fail on bootup. The BIOS can tell that the drive is there, but they will not spin up. Not very good in a office environment, and even worse at home. No wonder Maxtor has dropped it's warranty from 3 years to 1 year.

THE GOOD:
Fast access, simple install, pretty cheap

THE BAD:
Failed. Now hangs up -- can't even check the drive out.

SUMMARY:
The drive worked great until a failure 3 weeks after purchase. I'm starting to hear of other failures and I'm not looking forward to paying for data recovery. I'm afraid 800,000 MTBF is a little inaccurate. Seems like the same sorts of problems to doom the IBM Deskstar 60s. Maybe 7200 RPM ain't so great for IDE?

None!

THE BAD:
5 out of 5 plus one replacement BAD!!!!

SUMMARY:
I run a small business building gaming pc's for people in Dallas. About 7 months ago I ordered 5 DiamondMax Plus D740X 80GB drives. Upone recieving I immediately had to call my vendor and get a replacement as one of the drives was broke just out of the shrinkwrap. 2 months later a second drive when lame of which it was replaced by maxtor. Neary every month since then I have been busy with Maxtor's RMA service as all five drives have had to be replaced and as of last night on of the replacement drives has gone bad with SMART failures and is making the ever joyful clicking sound. For a company to allow such awful quality control sends my wallet a clear message to STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Whats worse is if you have followed the trades lately you'll know that as of Oct all of the largest HDD manufacturers are now only offering a 1 year warranty. Sure you can pay for the extended...

THE GOOD:
Quiet, FAST, ATA/133 Interface, Maxtor's reliability

THE BAD:
Not as quiet as i expected it to be.

SUMMARY:
it is fast, I bought it with a Promise Ultra133 TX2 PCI controller, for the ATA133.

Go get it, you would not be disappointed. I've read a lot of reviews of this drive, and it is awesome. I mentioned the noise of the drive, well, it is quiet, but the other reviews mentioned that they could not hear a thing even being so close to the drive itself, it's not true. of course i heard the drive working... but it is not annoying.

SUMMARY:
We purchased 6 of these drives for our Shuttle SV-24 systems that we just recently put into production. Within the last week two of the drives have failed, and by failed I mean that they were not even bootable. With one of them you can hold the drive on it's side and hear the control arm just slide around. On the other it is making that beautiful clicking noise that we love to hear. I read all of the reviews that praised these drives and rated them among the best, and these sites have been right on with all of their other reviews concerning different products. If I would have submitted this review two weeks ago it would have read exactly the same, however it seems that these drives just don't last.
I would appreciate additional reviews or comments from people that are...
