AMD Athlon 64 3000+ & 3200+ Socket 939 Review - AMDReview.com
"...you will receive more value per dollar spent investing in a socket 939 system than in a socket 754 system."

AMD Athlon 64 3500+/3200+/3000+ Winchester CPU Comparison - X-bit labs
"The performance advantages ensured by the new 90nm Winchester core compared with the predecessor, 130nm NewCastle core, are minimal and sometimes the CPUs based on the new core are even slower than the predecessors. Since the K8 core design remained the same despite the use of finer 90nm production technology, the major trump of the new Winchester based CPUs is not their performance but their low heat dissipation."

What They Say:

"...I can say with a clean conscience that the 3200+ definitely lived up to my expectations. What I felt the CPU needed to accomplish were 3 goals. One was to run at same temps or lower than existing CPUs at same frequencies. I also thought that this CPU should overclock the same or better than contemporaries to be considered a success. Finally, it should be as fast as its peers and no slower (e.g. Prescott vs. Northwood core P4). The 3200+ that I reviewed came through with shining colors."
"The small taste of the possible performance of AMD’s 90 nm Athlon 64’s leave me wanting more. Much more. It is a solid architecture, and with chipset partners like NVIDIA, ATI, and VIA, AMD will have a compelling product for shoppers for the next year. More innovations are coming down the road, but for right now the price/performance ratio of the 90 nm Athlon 64 3200+ is truly second to none."

"The move from a 130nm to a 90nm die was also a success. This process has displaced a number of processors, namely the Newcastles, and made consumers look past socket 754, but it will make for cheaper processors, better performance, and CPU speeds that could not be reached at 130nm. The minimal amount of heat produced by the Winchesters means that it is the ideal processor for quiet PC enthusiasts and gamers alike. The only bad thing about this lineup is that it does not yet have SSE3 instructions support, but this will be coming along quite soon."
