THE GOOD: Apple's new touch interface, first appearing on the iPhone, truly is remarkable. The functionality of this as an iPod is perfect. Widescreen allows you to not squint at whatever video your watching. Great sound output, cover flow is a neat touch. Pristine browser and wi-fi functionality.THE BAD: Needed it's current software sooner, battery life isn't as good as a classic ipod or nano. For the rest of the story, see below. SUMMARY: Like the good little technophile i am, the second i saw this advertised, i was determined to get it. So when i got back stateside, it had only been out for a week or so, and i snatched up a 16gb version some time in October. My first thought of this guy was that it would essentially be an iPhone without the phone or camera, which i was fine with, because i already had a phone with a camera in it. I was absolutely wrong. it was basically just a widescreen ipod that you could touch. Sometime around the new year, apple released software ver. 1.1.3, which actually allowed you to edit the scheduler on the iPod itself, as opposed to the way it was doing it, which was just like any other iPod (sync it through iTunes). I was quite happy they were making steps, but still i was not pleased. In January, they released the January software update, containing all the apps the iphone has that weren't on the iPod Touch. All for the low cost of $20. I find this ridiculous. I paid full price for the Touch near release, and now i have to pay extra to make it current? Ridiculous.... But, if your thinking of buying one, the January software update is the standard for iPod touches purchased after Jan. 15 2008, so none of this applies. enjoy :-) |
