Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 vs. MSI K9A2 Platinum Review - ExtremeTech
The boards performed equally in almost every way. And while both boast features that supposedly sets it apart from the other, they're trade-offs. What does that leave us with? Convenience. If we were to install one of these motherboards, physically we'd rather it be the Gigabyte. There's a bit more room for a large cooler; it has more rear I/O options; and its IDE port is more finger-friendly. Of course, there's price to consider as well, and depending on where you buy the street prices of these units vary wildly. You'll likely find the MSI K9A2 cheaper than the Gigabyte board, so if you're looking to save some dough with your AMD platform, you won't lose out on a great deal of benefit.

AMD 790FX Motherboard Roundup - Hardware Zone
Gigabyte, like ASUS focuses on one thing for their high-end motherboards, and that is total domination. Flagship motherboards like the GA-MA790FX-DQ6 offer everything you will want to have and we will say that it ties with the ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe in most aspects for performance, and features, two of the most important aspects of choosing an enthusiast board. Overclocking was also a very straightforward affair. The only problem we have with the board is its PCIe x16 slot configuration, which clumps all four lots in the same area. Otherwise, the GA-MA790FX-DQ6 would have gotten full marks. Considering the majority of users would likely use a dual-graphics card setup than a triple (let alone quad) CrossFireX setup, this isn't a very bad trait for the board - just something that could have been better addressed to attain perfection. The Gigabyte motherboard is also the most expensive board in our line-up and while we do think that the ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe offers a slightly better value, the overall package makes the GA-MA790FX-DQ6 our best choice for an enthusiast AMD 790FX motherboard.

On the whole the DQ6 is a good board but one that few people will actually want. Most of us will probably prefer the DS5 instead as it looks to be a better compromise of features and price, but I still think both have a few niggles that could put people off.

Concluding this review, we feel that this motherboard aims at a specific target group, since there are not so many "hot" new improvements that could justify the increased price, compared to Nvidia's 590SLI. Things might change when the AMD Phenom hits the market, then we will see the true performance of the RD790 with the 1066MHz memory bandwidth and if we are lucky enough to get four identical ATI based graphics cards, a Quad Crossfire setup.
Gigabyte has a great product in the GA-MA790FX-DQ6 motherboard, but the sad fact of the matter is that this motherboard is bottlenecked in so many ways by the Phenom processor. As we have said before, the Phenom is a good product, but when you look through it wearing hardware enthusiast glasses, Intel’s Core 2 Quad product line is a ton better on so many levels.
The GA-MA790FX-DQ6 sets the standard for high-end AMD motherboards, which could become a key market segment as new processors and graphics cards are released.
