It's hard to evaluate such devices. Pioneers always have to fight hard, innovations are better evaluated post factum. But they always have their audience. So the product under review will not be just a concept, it will go to the masses. Especially as it can be used to control media playback and browse the Web even now, when it's still raw. However, if you play games, you will need a cord mouse as well. So if you can afford it, you can buy it. Even if you don't use it very often, it will still be an interesting toy. Out of doubt, it's a worthy product for our Original Design award.
Buying the MX Air for gaming or desktop use exclusively would be a big mistake. While it does a decent job at both there are plenty of cheaper mice out there that do it even better. In a living room or a conference hall the MX Air is unrivaled however. The intuitiveness of the motion controls makes the learning process extremely short (we needed only a minute or two to become comfortable with the air controls). Because of its design the MX Air not only fits into the living room, but it will probably end up being the sleekest looking device in there, feeling right at home next to other living room high tech gadgets like the PS3 (with which it works out of the box).

Naturally, HTPC users should be flocking to this technology. With custom settings and volume and play/pause buttons, MX Air is aimed directly at the home media market. And for good reason; home media users will be pleased with this mouse's features and wire-free performance. Then again, with laser pointer-like abilities, Logitech's Air also makes PowerPoint and other computer-driven presentations just a bit more enjoyable.

The good points however far outweigh the bad here; this mouse is amazing once you get it house trained! - I’m always using it now on the sofa when I’m watching movies because it's just so much fun to use every time I pick it up. If you have the money, or don't have the money because you just built a HTPC, take a loan or borrow it from your friends, because this rodent is the perfect accessory to complete that sweet living room setup.
