AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 04:10 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: X-bit labs
Article Quote:
The CPUs with new processor stepping will definitely be better than their predecessors. However, it is important to remember that top quad-core AMD processors are currently a pretty weak offering against the background of their competitors. In fact, they can only compete against the old similarly priced LGA775 CPUs and only in terms of nominal mode performance. In other words, the launch of the new Intel LGA1156 platform made it difficult for AMD to get not only into the upper but also into a significant part of the mainstream price segment. And no new processor stepping can change this state of things. Therefore, we can only expect AMD solutions to return to high-performance segment only when they move their upcoming CPUs on Bulldozer microarchitecture to mass production. Unfortunately, it can happen only in 2011 at best.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 04:04 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: Tom's Hardware
Article Quote:
Taken on its own, the new revision of AMD's Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition isn't particularly notable, but it was never meant to be. Taken in context, however, the chip plays its part in AMD's larger strategy of enabling an upgradable family of CPUs and socket interfaces. In fact, the Athlon II/Phenom II platform flexibility is a strategy that we find very attractive, and is probably the best thing AMD can do in its present circumstances.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 04:01 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: Extreme Overclocking
Article Quote:
There's really no downside to the new Phenom II X4 965 - 125W TDP model. The chip will overclock right around that 4 GHz zone, but it is just luck of the draw and each system setup will have an affect. We've seen numerous times in the past where the same model chip comes out with a new revision and often a lower TDP rating, both AMD and Intel do it. The new C3 stepping chips I'm sure will eventually trickle into all of the Phenom II's. I did not get a chance to mess around with AOD 3.1 too much, but it is nice to see the AMD team continually strive to improve its functionality. AMD Overdrive really makes overclocking the Black Edition processors a snap, for both the novice and expert. It is much more convenient to adjust things on-the-fly than constantly rebooting the system to change settings in your BIOS.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 04:00 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: AMD Zone
Article Quote:
Ultimately this isn't a game changer for Phenom II but it's nice to see AMD continue to make improvements to it's process and less power consumption is always better. Of course it may not be able to compete with the idle power ratings as Lynnfield but hey, at the same price you can't go wrong.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 03:46 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: PureOC
Article Quote:
Our opinion of the 125W of the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition hasn't changed much from when we first examined the 140W version; we think it's a great processor and it does bring mildly lower power consumption and higher overclocking headroom. The result is not earth-shattering, but it does have AMD moving in the right direction, and this combination is a welcome addition to the AMD lineup.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 03:41 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: Benchmark Reviews
Article Quote:
AMD has done a great job refining the model HDZ965FBK4DGM AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 125W processor, even though the die is constructed with the same 45nm process as before. Functionality has actually improved with the new model, as GlobalFoundries FAB1 has added C1E implementation on the hardware level, and DDR3 is now supported at 1333MHz for 'Heavy' loads. Let's not forget the 'Black Edition' label, which unlocks the clock multiplier and allows for unrestricted overclocking beyond the 3.4GHz default speed. With a small voltage increase and a bump to the multiplier, Benchmark Reviews was able to reach 4.2GHz with ease.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 Review reported at 03:39 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: Overclockers Club
Article Quote:
According to AMD, the new Phenom II X4 965 will debut at $195 at launch. This is much less than when the first generation 965 launched, and at which point, will also be lowered in price to match the refreshed version. While the refreshed chip does offer better cooling and a bit better performance, I do not feel it warrants going out and buying it to replace the first generation chip you may already have. However, with that being said, if you are looking to upgrade to a very inexpensive, yet powerful quad core processor for your AMD based system, then I would skip the rest and make sure to get the newer 125W TDP Phenom II X4 965 processor.

ATI Radeon HD 5850 Review reported at 02:09 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: X-bit labs
Article Quote:
Summing up today’s test session, we have to admit that the Radeon HD 5850 is going to be the only real opponent to the Radeon HD 5870 until the arrival of the next generation of graphics cards from Nvidia. In fact, it is such a dangerous opponent that purchasing the top RV870-based model may not seem reasonable. To remind you, the difference in price between the Radeon HD 5870 and HD 5850 is $100 (or 25% of the price of the HD 5870) but the actual difference between the two cards is vanishing quickly as soon as you overclock your Radeon HD 5850 to the frequencies of the HD 5870. Can any Radeon HD 5850 be overclocked to 850/4800MHz? We guess it is almost 99.9% probability as long as all these cards use the reference design and are equipped with the same GPUs and memory chips. The option of increasing the GPU voltage from software (if your particular card cannot overclock at the default voltage) is already available.

Asus Radeon HD 4890 Review reported at 02:00 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: XSreviews.co.uk
Article Quote:
ASUS’ 4890 showing has definitely been a good one: first and foremost, we’ve got to mention the cooler. Essentially, this is what separates this card from the many other 4890 cards on the market. Overall, we’re pretty pleased with it; sure the F1 styling could be considered a little gimmicky, but the extra cooling is certainly welcome and allows for the factory overclocking.

Asus P7P55D Deluxe Review reported at 01:57 PM
category: Socket 1156 Motherboards     website: TechSpot
Article Quote:
The Asus P7P55D Deluxe is a great all around motherboard that deserves to be in your buying shortlist of solid P55 motherboard that deliver quality albeit at a slightly higher price. If you are looking for a LGA1156 motherboard to couple with a Core i5 or Core i7 processor, you only get the option to pick among P55-based motherboards, which reduces the gap between each manufacturer's offerings. Furthermore, this platform exclusively supports dual-channel DDR3 memory, so there will be no deviations as far as memory support is concerned.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 Vapor-X Review reported at 01:48 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: Motherboards.org
Article Quote:
The Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 Vapor-X video card is a slightly faster overclocked version of their regular HD 5750 card. While a 10MHz overclock on both the core and memory clock speeds is not much, that is not the point of this card. The Vapor-X video card runs quietly when in Windows with no discernable noise from the card in normal operation. The second thing this card has is a high overclock threshold with 850MHz for the core and 1420MHz for the memory fully stable. Temperatures with Vapor-X reached 56C under load when overclocked and 42C when idle, very good temperatures for a video card. The cost of the card will be a little more expensive than a 5750 reference card but for that cost you get excellent cooling, excellent overclocking and slightly higher performance due to the increased clocks.

ThermoLab Bada Review reported at 01:45 PM
category: CPU Coolers     website: Frosty Tech
Article Quote:
It's thus good that Thermolab's BADA heatsink stands only 136mm tall and yet still competes head-to-head with some of the best +150mm tall tower heatsinks out there, on both Intel and AMD test platforms. Thermolab's got a good mid-tower heatsink in the BADA, it has excellent performance capabilities at full fan speed if you're willing to accept moderate noise output. Recommended.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 & 5850 Review reported at 01:31 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: Big Bruin
Article Quote:
The bottom line is that the HD5850 is an excellent choice for those in need of some serious gaming muscle, but not the kind of muscle that costs $300, $400, or even more. For $270, the Sapphire card offers great performance, fairly low noise output, decent energy efficiency, and all of the cool new features available in the HD5XXX series. All things considered, it earns the Bigbruin.com "Recommended" award.

Cooler Master Storm Sentinel Advance Review reported at 01:26 PM
category: Mice     website: HardwareCanucks
Article Quote:
Is this mouse the perfect mouse we have all been looking for all these years? No, it is not but like I said before: it is pretty darn close in my opinion. For its kick ass performance, its flexibility and its good ergonomics we feel fully justified in giving our highest accolade: the Dam Good Award. As for its amazing and useful implementation of technology (the OLED screen and properly implemented onboard memory) we also feel justified in saying it is pretty Dam Innovative as well. Congratulations Cooler Master for getting it so right the first time out.

ATI Radeon HD 5750 OC Review reported at 01:20 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: Legion Hardware
Article Quote:
Finally a word of advice when overclocking, never expect to reach a certain frequency, but rather hope for it. Just because we managed to reach a core clock of 825MHz with a memory frequency of 1335MHz, does not necessarily mean you will. Having said that, you may actually beat our overclock! As mentioned earlier, overclocking is best done in baby steps, bump up the core till you find its limits and then do the same for the memory. Finding the limit of one and then the other is much easier than doing both at the same time.

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Review reported at 01:04 PM
category: Socket AM3 CPUs     website: Bjorn3D
Article Quote:
Quadcore. $100. These two things pretty much sum up what the AMD Athlon II X4 620 is all about. Four cores of processing power for $100. Although the 620 is missing the L3 chache that its big brother the Phenom II comes with, the performance that you get right out of the box is amazing. Bump up the FSB and maybe even give a little more voltage to the CPU and the results are even better. AMD has stated that this processor was designed for the mainstream segment, but we have no doubts that this chip will can begin to hang with the big boys with the right combination of parts. Add to the fact that the X4 620 doesn't pump out rediculous amounts of heat, even when overclocked, and you are well on your way to a budget build that won't leave you sweating.
