Audition

This movie has left me speechless. Lately, I have gotten tired of the horror cliches that keep crowding the movie scene. Whether it is Japanese remakes or weapon-totting mask killers, the current horror movies just mainly piss me off instead of scaring me. Audition breaks the mold in every way. The movie starts out with a father and his son living together after the mother died. A friend of the father suggests that he should start dating again, and they decide to hold a fake audition to try to meet new girls. One girl in particular stands out, but she is a lot more than she appears to be. She does a great job of seeming like an innocent person. But when she does turn evil, it took me by surprise at how sadistic she really was.

This movie starts out slowly enough, almost like a romantic drama, but it transitions very fast. There is one scene in particular that changes the mood almost instantly. I won't give it away, but the ending is downright creepy. A few flaws with this movie are some of the random scenes that make no sense to the general story. They can easily be overlooked, but it somehow ruined the flow of the movie. Otherwise, this movie is a great film to watch. Overall, this movie is one the most intelligent movies I have ever seen. It is hard to describe in words, but this movie struck a nerve. One warning is that this movie is not for the weak-stomached.
