THE GOOD: Spellbinding 2nd season - excellent acting, strong story lines and groundbreaking special effects.THE BAD: UK Release states Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. SUMMARY: One year on from inheriting their magical powers, the sisters three face their most powerful adversary yet. Season 2 brings to the Halliwell mansion a demon who steals away the enchanted Book of Shadows into another dimension. Once the book is lost, chaos unfurls as the book is unread - thus reversing each spell, causing vanquished demons to return, and slowly undoing all the Halliwell sisters have done in the name of good. An incredible opener to the 2nd season of the compelling cult series - Charmed.
Most of the season is focused on Piper's new business venture - a nightclub called P3, plus the torn love affairs between herself and two suitors, her mysterious white-lighter Leo, a genuine earth-angel, and handsome next door neighbour Dan. Holly Marie Coombs is a truly great actress, and in Season 2 she establishes herself a key element of the Halliwell's unfolding legacy. Piper's strength of spirit draws her deep into a love story which reaches a moving conclusion. The season is enthrallingly dark and powerful and revisits and develops the sisters' close bonding, hence their intertwined powers. The scripts are well written, and have a 'demon of the week' theme which helps satisfy each show individially for the viewers. The season finale, directed by Shannen Doherty, charts new ground and sets the series towards turning darker but even more spellbinding. Out now on Paramount home video. |
