If there's one thing that sets Gundam 0080 aside from other Gundam titles, it's the fact that 0080 actually focuses more on the humans and civilians involved in and affected by war, rather than the Mobile Suits themselves.
This becomes obvious early on when you learn that the main character in this series is a young civilian, not a MS Pilot like most Gundam pilots are. He soon befriends a Zeon MS pilot and introduces him to his friend who is a Federation pilot, not knowing that the buy has put himself in the middle of the One Year War because both his friends view the opposite side as the enemy in the conflict.
Although there's not much action in this volume, the fact that it looks more intimately at the "personal" side of war is a nice change from the typical Gundam pattern of storytelling. Overall it's good if you want something different out of Gundam, but if you're looking for lots of MS battles, it's best to look elsewhere because you won't find it here.
