THE GOOD: Selena performs her most famous hit singles, including Amor Prohibido, Como La Flor, and even the Disco Medley. 55 minutes of concert - non-stop. Selena really knew how to keep a crowd going and gave them every single penny of their ticket's worth. Tribute is pretty nice.THE BAD:
It's not the DVD fault, but it always has been rumored, and I noticed this too, Selena actually appeared sick that night in Houston. Her physique looked bloated, and her voice wasn't as bright as I usually hear it on my CD's. Probably something we'll never know, she was gunned down only three weeks later... This was not Selena's Last Concert - she had a gig in Dallas 5 days before she was killed.SUMMARY: I saw this on television, the supposed final concert of one of my favorite musical talents of all time, Selena. You could say this was the final concert that was actually televised and seen by so many people worldwide...it set a new attendance record as the Astrodome, coincidentally I have the DVD of the event that broke that record - Wrestlemania 17 in 2001. Anyway, this concert is still the biggest concert draw of that Astrodome, and I saw this back live in '95 and recently when her 10th death anniversary passed earlier this year. It is a good concert, a good package. Selena came in on a chariot and waved to the fans, then went up on stage to perform most of her #1 hits, so that was well. The band [Her family] were playing, and to be honest, they were not that great either. Selena's voice covered for them half of the entire concert. And that's when it was well. There are a few points where she becomes barely inaudible, as if she were battling some kind of sickness. She still danced as only she can, however. The best song was No Me Queda Mas, as it was really only her voice, and it was spectacular, definitely a must see. The worst of the night was Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. Selena had about as much charisma as a squirrel burrying it's nut.
In all, a fairly good concert, but definitely tainted. I don't think Selena was used to playing huge gigs like this by herself yet, and neither was the band. She needed a bit more time, IMO, but she never would, as she was murdered...
In all, if you want to see an okay concert, you can't go wrong with this, but she has had way better performances not availible on any media... |
