THE GOOD: Cast Setting Era Black and white Sound ScriptTHE BAD:
Nudity The order of stories (That Yellow Bastard is before the first two stories)SUMMARY: I was looking at all the user reviews for this and thought the reviews were great so I bought the Sin City dvd. I watched the movie and I said 'twas the best movie of 2005 since Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. Elijah Wood and Clive Owen played the best parts in the movie as Kevin and Dwight. The three stories adapted from the comics by Frank Miller are That Yellow Bastard with Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Powers Boothe and Nick Stahl; The Hard Goodbye with Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, Carla Gugino, Frank Miller, Rutger Hauer and Jaime King; The Big Fat Kill with Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Devon Aoki, Benicio del Toro, Alexis Bledel, Tommy Flanagan, Patricia Vonne and Brittany Murphy that connects all stories. A short scene of the Babe Wore Red or 'the Customer is Always Right' has Josh Hartnett and Marley Shelton.
It's an awesome cast. =D
A summary of the That Yellow Bastard. =)
That Yellow Bastard - John Hartigan (Willis) is going to do his last case of his job, saving an eleven year old girl. Skinny little Nancy Callahan. Nancy is kidnapped by rapist and son of a senator, Junior Roark (Stahl) and Hartigan has to save her while his dark partner (Madsen) is trying to stop him. Hartigan makes Bob 'get out of his way'. Hartigan corners Roark at a dock and blows of three major body parts including his 'weapon'. Everything is going perfect until Bob shoots Hartigan in the back. Hartigan is in the hospital with Senator Roark. Hartigan is convicted of raping Nancy..and shooting Junior. If he tells anyone the truth and they're dead. Hartigan is imprisoned for life. 'Cordelia' sends Hartigan letters. For eight years. One day, no letter is sent. Hartigan is worried, he faints. He comes to and the Yellow Bastard is there. He smells awful like bad food. Like a corpse left in a garbage dumpster in the middle of summer. The Yellow Bastard knocks Hartigan out cold. When he comes to, he finds a letter from Cordelia but not from Cordelia. It isn't a letter, it's a finger of the right hand of nineteen year old girl. After eight years, Hartigan agrees to everything and he is released. Bob is waiting to give Hartigan a ride..with the Yellow Bastard behind them. Hartigan sniffs around Nancy's place. Nancy isn't there, just a match pack from Kadie's, the Basin City bar. Hartigan goes there and sniffs around for Nancy. He goes to the waitress (Murphy) and tells him 'eyes to the stage pilgrim, she's just warming up'. The Yellow Bastard is there. Watch the movie for the ending. =D
This movie is really great, you need to watch it. The Extended ¤ Uncut ¤ Unrated version is hitting the shelves on December 13, 2005 which includes special features, documentaries and the Sin City graphic novel, The Hard Goodbye. Pick that Sin City up!

The look of Sin City is the best thing about it. It looks like Rodriguez transfered scenes from the comic directly to the big screen. Everything is in shades of black and white, with certain colors like an actor's eyes, a red dress, golden hair, and red blood.
The world of Sin City is populated by hookers, crooks, and corrupt cops. There are very few 'good' guys, and the ones that are have plenty of skeletons in their closet. The men all smoke and wear trench coats, and the women wear little to nothing at all. Corrupt policeman have an uneasy truce with the prostitutes, and corrupt politicians keep their equally corrupt children out of jail. In one story, Dwight is trying to prevent a street war from breaking out. Jackie Boy is harassing hookers, and Gail, the leader of all of the prostitutes, will have no part of it. In a second story, the hulking, disfigured Marv hunts for the killer of Goldie, a beautiful hooker who was also the only person who ever said something nice to him. He is framed for her murder, and goes on his own rampage trying to find the real killer. In the last story, Hartigan saves a young girl from a pedophile, only to find himself framed for the crime. Years later, he seeks out this girl, Nancy Callahan, now a nineteen year old stripper. The cast is impressive, and also includes smaller performances by Elijah Wood, Michael Clarke Duncan, Devon Aoki, Josh Hartnett, and Alexis Bledel.
With that said, everyone did an excellent job at acting. The violence is overshadowed by the story, so despite how gruesome some scenes are, its bearable just to be able to see what happens. Not to mention the black and white obscures much of the violence. The sex and language is also there, although not obtrusively so, and I felt the soundtrack and voice-overs really complimented the movie. |

THE GOOD: 1. Cast (namely Jessica Alba) 2. Great Story 3. SuspensefulTHE BAD: 1. Nothing SUMMARY: Sin City was without a doubt one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. It is three Frank Miller novels all rolled into one action packed movie. It can be a little confusing the first time you see it, but you will understand it at the end. It will make you want to see it again and again. |

THE GOOD: Great Cast.THE BAD: Not interesting at all. Has three key factors; whores, guns and gore. SUMMARY: I have no idea what I sat through for 2 hrs and 6 min. It seemed like something out of Star Trek, Spiderman, ER, a bad classic detective film, Pleasantville, and a porno. Either I missed a key scene, or only half the movie had any plot at all, and that, only for the sake of throwing in a little more blood. It was almost laughably ridiculous. I'd like compensation for the 2 hrs and 6 minutes of my wasted youth. |
