THE GOOD:
  • The awesome Godfather theme
  • Nino Rita's new score
  • Outstanding performances by Al Pacino (in the first one, he was shadowed by the performances by James Caan and Marlon Brando) and a young Robert De Niro
  • Script

    THE BAD:

  • Never watch on an empty stomach, it creates headaches (but not because it sucks, it's because it's too long and the beginning starts slowly)

    SUMMARY:
The Godfather Part II is the well-known gritty sequel directed by once again Francis Ford Coppola and written by author Mario Puzo. The very fascinating thing about the script is the fact that, though half of the script was adapted from the book (the young Vito story), the other half is completely original (Michael's story) and still it worked out very well and answered alot of questions about Vito's pastlife and how he came to be what we was until the day he died. This part of the series is my favorite and always will be because of the characters and the hands down AWESOME plot. And unlike my The Godfather review, I will in fact try and write the entire story or parts of it with some minor spoilers.

    Story (wtf? NO! StorIES) - 10 / 10

The story was SO awesome and original. I think I've watched the movie about 14 times. I tend to like Vito's story alot more because of De Niro. Coppola and Puzo painted two portraits in this movie, and Vito's story is without a doubt, jollier. I love Michael's story all the same but his is WAY too dark (you'll hear the "evil" theme alot more in his) and Michael himself is evil. In the first one, he was a jolly war hero with the love of his life, Kay. In this movie, he is a ruthless mob boss. Here goes the story:
The movie begins with a brief glimpse at Michael with his slick hair (omfg he really is adorable) and then showing "Mario Puzo's The Godfather" with "PART II" showing up seconds later. Then it cuts to a parade-like sequence with some crap like "The godfather was born Vito Andolini in the town of Corleone, Sicily" but enough of that mumbo-jumbo. In plain words, Vito Corleone was born Vito Andolini in the town of Corleone, Sicily where his name was derived. His dad was killed and suddenly, his brother dies. Then his mom and him go to Don Ciccio. His mom begs for his life but he refuses. She takes Ciccio by the neck and threatens him with a knife and yells, "Run, Vito!" which takes her off guard. They kill her, which makes Vito an orphan. Vito is taken to America and some dude at the counter asks his name and ends up screwing up Vito's name. It then shows Vito in a room and he starts singing to himself. The movie cuts to Michael's story where --

Ahhh, crap. I forgot. I guess that's all I can say because if I say too much, it just might give away the perfectness of the movie away.

    Music Score - 10 / 10
The score is once again, composed by Nino Rita. This time he composes some new tunes (don't worry, the movie uses the classic tune too). What can I say about the score? Ummm..it goes like this: dooooo do do DOOOOOOO dooo do - dooooo do do DOOOOO dooo dooo - doooo do do DOOOOOOO doo DOOO dooo. Wasn't that just awesome?

    Characters/Performances - 10 / 10
Excellent. That is just another word besides "perfect" to describe the character development and the performances played by Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, John Cazale, Bruno Kirby, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, Richard Bright and Vin Diesel. Okay, fine, Diesel isn't in here. John Cazale played the magnificent Fredo, Pacino played Michael, Kirby played the young Clemenza, Duvall played the clever Tom Hagen, Diane played the pretty Kay, Richard Bright played the loyal Al Neri, Robert De Niro played Vito (better than Brando!) and Vin Diesel played Hyman Roth AND Johnny Ola, he had dual roles!

    Script - 10 / 10
The script was powerful. Even though the majority of Vito's story is spoken in Sicilian, the subtitles keep you updated on the dealio. Michael's story as said, is not a story adapted from the book. As such, his story was and is engrossing from beginning to end. It's just sad to see the younger kids, especially Sonny, knowing their fate as death..

    10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40 divided by 4 = 10 divided by 2 = 5

Well there you have it. The Godfather Part II is one of the greatest movies I have seen.

2 years ago Francis Ford Coppola directed probably one of the most iconic movies ever made in history. Now the Godfather II came out and it is just as great as the original, hell, it's even better. The movie starts out with Vito Corleone(as you might know or not know half the movie is a prequal involving Michael Corleone and Vito Corleone) walking with his mother to his father's funeral, of course Vito also has an older brother Palo who swore to take revenge against the man who killed his father. Sadly, Palo dies and later on so does his mother, Vito is forced to hide away from the man otherwise he'll end up the same fate as his family. Now with Michael the movie starts out with his son's baptisim, with Michael still as firece and powerful as his father. Now I'm gonna stop right there and let you watch the rest of the movie, the movie switches in between Michael and Vito's life, of couse, both lifes are different. The movie shows Vito becoming more succesful in his busniess and probably one of the most happiest moments in his life, but Michael is slowly losing everything he ever loved, tragically at the end Michael loses just about everything he loves after he kills his brother. This movie is spectacular the acting is fantastic, you are actually convinced that you are in old Italy walking down those streets listening to the actors briallantly plan murders. This movie knows when to add violence and when to add in drama. Many tragic things happen to Michael and he slowly desecends into madness and parnoia, while losing everything he loves. One of the best movie ever to date and truly one to remember.
