Convincing Your Parents to Allow Things

I want a dog. A puppy. I really, really, really want a puppy. However my mom just sees dogs as being messy, irresponsible, and all that jazz. How can I convince her to let me get one? I know she trusts me. I've offered to pay for expenses and take care of it (walks, peeing, etc.) and she knows that I'm a respectable teenager. She goes on and on about how dogs get bigger over time. I know that dogs get bigger over time, but seeing as I have a huge love for animals, I can easily get over that. =P I really don't see size as that big of an issue. But ever since my girl friend broke up with me, it's been miserable not being able to cuddle with someone and now that I've set my eyes on a puppy, I can't take them off. =(

I already showed her pictures (cutest pictures ever) and told her that anyone who rejects such things are heartless.

So yeah, any suggestions? I just really think it would be good for me.

To make this relate to you folks more, generally, what do you think helps convince parents to let you do things? It can be anything like extending the curfew, letting you go certain places, etc. A lot of us are teenagers and have gone/are going through the whole "my parents don't let me do anything" phase. So how do you deal with it?

Ummm... Get another girlfriend. A lot less responsibilty, but just as expensive. Jk.

Try to bribe her, or if you live with both of your parents, talk to your Dad, as he might think it will make you more responsible, or something of the sort.

I deal with the " my parents don't let me do anything " phase by being confrontational, and tell them I'm going out. If they say no, I basically tell them, I said I was going out, so I'm going out.

You're buying a dog to replace your girlfriend?
Whatever tickles your pickle, i guess :L

Anyway, just keep the dog in a kennel outside or something while you're not at home if she's worried about the mess <<

Exactly what I was thinking

What I usually do is say sometihng like: "If I get straight As the next semester, will you let me have a dog?" or something among those lines.

That just gave me an idea haha. I could tell my mom how alone and miserable I feel since she broke up with me that maybe my mom will start to consider it.

Just for the record though, I'm getting over this girl and I'm certainly not using the dog as a "replacement girlfriend" (just thinking that is really freaking creepy tbh). I just think that having a dog around the house would really be cool. An extra friend to hang out with.

Tell her people without dogs are communists. That should get her.

Prove to her that you will be the one taking care of the dog. Maybe write out your daily schedule and fit in times where you will be taking care of the dog. Here is an example, lets say it's Saturday: You wake up at 11am, take the dog out for a walk around 1:00, do homework at 2:00, give the dog a bath at 4:00.

Thats just an example, but I'm sure if you work out your schedule with the new responsibility of a dog and show your mom is should be a strong argument.

If your mom is worried about the dog's size, choose a small breed then.

re: Convincing Your Parents to Allow Things

Schedule thing seems like a pretty good idea.

As for a small breed of dog, I've definitely been considering that. I myself don't want anything TOO big. I know what kind of breeds I've been interested in. (I've pretty much fallen in love with this one btw). She just can't seem to get past the "Oh it's gonna be a giant smelly thing". Though I'm sure with a careful enough explanation and an in-depth talk, hopefully I can make her look past that.
