band issues help!!!

well me and a few friends have a band put together through a local music club but we all have different tastes in music. I(the drummer) am into punk n celtic punk while the keyboadist n ryhtm gitaurist are into pop punk and pop rock. Bassit and vocalist number 2 are into metal, the lead gitaurist is into altrenitve and finally our vocalist number 1 is into plain rock. Any ideas on what to do because we always end up doing some pop punk heap of crap

re: band issues help!!!

make a combination genre.

or just compromise and don't assign yourselves one or two genres. one song could be punk and then one could be metal.

I agree with Slaythebad. You can do a number of things - You can mix and match genres and play your own style of music, you can switch off different genres and compromise, or... Find other band members, however I doubt that's what you want xD

re: band issues help!!!

I think since you have about 5 of you, you could possibly do some songs that members don't want to do with say 3 or 4 who do actually want to do it.

If that makes sense.

re: band issues help!!!

^I disagree. Democracy is a fun system and all but in a band situation, if you have 4 people really enthusiastic about a cover and 1 guy who's not really into it, the whole performance will slip. I hate playing covers yet my bandmates insist on playing a few. Unless I grow to like the song, i'll usually ask to take on more of a minor role tbh.

yea we have democracy reigning in our band so we end up doin relli indie stuff or pop punk and all we do is covers and i seem to be holding the band back because theyve been playing 5 - 7 years and ive been playen bout 1 na half - 2 years

re: band issues help!!!

just ask if you can play a couple songs that you like.

if they aren't willing to compromise or play one or 2 songs you like, maybe see if there is another band around that is more into your stuff.

getting into a band is great; staying in a band is only worth it if you are interested in the songs they play.
