	It seems to me that few people understand Roman numerals these days. I mean, I can understand not being able to understand DCLXXVII or a really long string, but I'm talking about the fact that even numbers like XIV (14) seem to trip people up. Take for example, English class. The book we're reading happens to have its chapters numbered in Roman numerals. Chapter 10 was assigned, and over half the class seemed confused as to what chapter it was. Ten, for God's sakes! X! You can't get much simpler than that. The system is archaic, yes, but is it really that hard to learn? Bonus points to those who know what DCLXXVII is. No cheating. ------------------- ~To the world, you may be one person. 	It's not really hard to learn. I know basic Roman Numerals and I can probably figure out one I don't know is if it is used as chapter number in a book. -------------------

	I'm in a GAP (extra) class dedicated to ancient Rome, and our first assignment had to do with Roman Numerals. I already knew what most of them were. Some of the questions were a bit hard, like CCXCIV since it takes longer to figure out as opposed to V. One time I wrote the date in Roman numerals for no apparent reason; my friend did it.
