Spawn #162
Review

I've always been a fan of Spawn, even though I was never there from the beginning. Since the 100 issue of Spawn, things have gone downhill for the Hellspawn. It lost it's once unstoppable popularity, and with each passing issue it felt like it was keeping a sick dog alive. A dog you don't want to shoot but it was suffering too much. Since it's 150th issue, Spawn has gotten a huge turn. With a new story, new artist, and new powers. Now the arc has ended with #162, so how did it end?

Spawn hasn't been this good in awhile. The art is fantastic, the story is reaching new heights, and it's throwing out new characters faster than a family who doesn't believe in condoms can throw out babies. It's hard to look at Spawn from the first 50 issues and now look at him. Doesn't seem like the same series anymore. But that isn't a bad thing.

I can't really write about much without spoiling but this issue marks the end of the piece of shit Spawn once was during it's downfall.

My friends, Spawn is once again awesome.

9.0/10

Identity Crisis #1-7 Hardcover

Writer: Brad Meltzer
Art: Rags Morales

For the past few years, I haven't been keeping up with DC's stories and characters. Identity Crisis is an excellent place to start for newbies, it fills you in very well, offering some backstory to the main characters. As for the story itself, it is brilliant. The Justice League sufferes a terrible loss, with the suspect leaving no evidence to track. This left the Justice League feeling more vulnerable than ever, Green Arrow puts it best when he says "Bulletproof skin is useless against grief". I especially like how the Big Three were portrayed here, we only see them for a few pages but it was done amazingly well. We get the feeling that they are above us all, almost like Gods. The main story also flashbacks to some arcs in the DC history done years ago (like when the JLA switches bodies with the villans), and explores a cast I never got to read about much, including Elongated Man, Hawkman, Zatanna, The Atom to name a few. Excellent book, it will keep you guessing the identity of the killer until it is revealed. 9.5/10

re: Review a Comic/Graphic Novel/TPB

Thought i'd just let you geezers in on me thoughts regarding a couple of blightys classics from 2000ad, home of the vastly overrated judge dredd.
first off BAd COmpany. Brutally good war epic, well written, art tends to be abit variable but the charaters are excellent. more for the first story arc than the second, although the ultimate resolution is very effecting. Made me think as well. very satirical.
8.5/10
And then Nemesis. this is a very good allegory for the apartheid, and the art is fantastically detailed (including some by the fantastic Bryan Talbot) and messed up, to the point where some clarity is lost. the character designs are fantastic for the protagonist and his nemesis (honk!) unfortunately some of the writing is fairly lacklustre and there are a fair few filler type stories.
6.5/10
