re: General Discussion Version XXXXIII - MGS4 > FFVII.

I loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but I'm struggling to get into either the original Tactics or Disgaea when I give it a shot, Disgaea especially. I guess the long-winded battles really don't appeal to me much. Too much covering ground and fuss like that.

re: General Discussion Version XXXXIII - MGS4 > FFVII.

I haven't played Tactics Advance because I heard it was a sequel, not a port. I was afraid Square might have made a great story into a farce, much like they've done/are starting to do with FFVII.

quote Celes Leonhart
I wouldn't use Metal Gear Solid 4 because they changed near enough everything, turning it into a pumped up, gadget-filled third person shooter.
I haven't played it yet. Please tell me they didn't eliminate the stealth element of the game, because that's all that made the gameplay great.

FF can compare to all those except Baldurs Gate, thats a dungeon crawler.
I agree that you can't really compare FF to Baldur's Gate, but it's definitely not a "dungeon crawler." True, it's a D&D game, but there isn't much dungeon to it if you stick mostly to the main quest. When I think dungeon crawler I think of a game with little plot that focuses on acquiring loot. Baldur's Gate is far from that.

Yeah, most fans of the original that I found really hated Advance in comparison. But I wouldn't worry, the stories are completely unrelated, it just uses the same system. It's about a group of friends who end up creating an imaginary world based on their favourite Playstation 2 game, Final Fantasy XII.

I guess it's all up to opinion, but in my view they completely demeaned the necessity of stealth. If you wanna run an' gun, there's not much stopping you. All you have to do is slip on the attire of one of the two opposing factions and you're happily welcomed into their forces.

I'd just say Baldurs Gate is more a Western RPG than an Eastern.

well facepalm back at you friend..smile..infamy points..lol...

That was an Oblivion moderator that made the comparison..I think the mods on this site should fight it out to answer the question..hmm..swords at 10 paces...lol.....

Well compare FF to:

The Grandia series...

The Breathe of Fire series...

The Ogre Battle series....

The Disgaea Series....

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2.....

I'll think of others as time goes by.....

Anything in any of those games you would like to see added to an FFVII remake ?
FF can compare to all those except Baldurs Gate, thats a dungeon crawler. Also Disgeae is kinda pushing it because its a grid based tacitcal game. Never played Ogre Battle though..

Anyways if theres a remake, I dont think they should change anything other than the graphics, and tweak the gameplay a little bit. What I mean is make the limit break system more like FFX instead of the game not letting you attack normally. Also, add some more dialogue to clear up the story in some areas, but other than that, no major changes. Of course thats just me....
You should have played Ogre Battle, one of the best rpgs ever made, up there with Tactics for me...

I left off the Suikoden series....you could compare those I would guess...
Baldur's Gate isn't a dungeon crawler..it has a lot more than just searching dungeons for loot....

Well there are other computer rpgs..Fable, Heroes of Might and Magic, the Gothic series....Hard to find anything out there like FF though...

True, but it kicks ass.

That's very disappointing. I'll have to refrain from doing that.

There was a sequel to Ogre Battle on the N64..it was actually one of the better N64 games..as well as one on one of the Nintendo handhelds...

and there are the Fallout games, although the new Fallout 3 that is coming out is supposedly a first person shooter, the previous games were rpgs...

What were those Sega games that came out back when Sega had a machine...and was compared to FF..I can't remember it's name though..

Ah yes..it was called Panzer Dragoon..I've never played it although there is a version out for the Playstation 2 if I recall correctly...
