anyone remember when CS was free to play without this f*ing steam BS..It's crap...spent 6 hours dl'ing 1.6 to play then steam tells me I have to pay for it! I thought this was a free MOD like 1.5 was...Hrm...guess not.

It is a free MOD, granted you actually have a legit Half-Life 1 CD key.

I just downloaded 1.6 off my steam, after entering my CD key and creating an account. Source charges for all its mods, I know that for sure.

Counter strike 1.6 and CS source are different games. As for the half-life1 Anthology disk, it should work as long as it contains the full regular version of half life 1.
As for the paying part.. I think this is how it works: A long time ago, there was no steam. All you needed was to install half-life, enter your CD KEY when you first installed, and then download counter strike and then you where ready to play. Then steam came out. Then after you downloaded steam, it re-asked you to enter that cd key. After you entered your CD Key, made a steam account (free if you have your old cd key), then it'll work. Although you'll need that CD key. I entered my CD key into steam a long time ago when it first came out, so now all I have to do is just login to steam and it works. Although the first time you login/create a steam account, you'll need to renter that CD key if you still have it. Basically you'll need your half-life CD key. | |

k I installed half-life...AGAIN!! CS AGAIN... HL1 activated, yet it still requires me to "purchase" counter-strike... If CS is supposed to be free, then why does it require a activation code? I don't get it..do I got the wrong CS or what? I'm getting angry lol I dl'ed CS off cs-nation.net if that helps any

CS 1.6 is not for free. It was a while back ago, but isn't anymore. You have to purchase it seprately or in a bundle pack.
