What makes someone an FF expert ?

What makes someone an FF Expert ?
I don't claim to be an expert in any FF game, although someone recently accused me of claiming to be an FFXII expert.
I don't claim to be one by the way.
I usually think of faq writers, people like Split Infinity, and Shotgunova as experts and consider them to be experts in FFXII..I guess I would consider FFGrandmaster in that league as well..although I don't agree with his opinions about the game.
Of course I would consider the faq writers for the other FF games to be experts as well, just so long as the info in their faqs is accurate.
Do you consider yourself an expert in any FF game and if so why and have you ever written a faq about the game you consider yourself an expert in ?

Oh, by the way I got a temp ban in the FFXII board and I am proud of it and no I don't blame Krunal.I thanked him for doing it although the other fellow was in the wrong. I needed to get away from FFXII for a while so I am happy...lol

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

Well to me a FF expert on a specific game has to have played through and beaten the main story at least once. As well as done all the official side quests and extras.

A general Final Fantasy expert to me has to have done the above on 5 numbered Final Fantasy games as well as know the basic plot and premise for 10 others.

Unfortunatly I am neither. I almost beat FFX 100% but I couldn't beat Penance.

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

When you can answer questions like these:

quote
1) FFX. What is the least amount of physical damage that can be dealt. Excluding nullified/immune damage. You must also explain the conditions of the situation, simply giving a number won't be enough, nor is it actually required for a complete answer.

2) FFX. What is the most Hp Regen can heal at once?

3) In Crisis Core, Zack can meet a relative of a significant person (not talking about a random NPC) from FFVII. Where can this person be found, who is the relative that appears in FFVII, and what is their relation?

4) FFVII. How many Hp values can reach 7777 Hp through basic materia manipulation?

5) FFVII. In the Shinra building there is an automobile featured near the right side stair case, where else in the game can this vehicle be found?
without looking up the answers.
Assuming you could even find the answers somewhere. xD

I agree more or less with Silver Mirror, actually.

Show me an expert on a video game, and I'll show you someone who could get out more often.

Just Joking!

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

Thanks for the responses thus far...
I've never written a faq..I don't have the patience...
I am thinking about doing some Disgaea wiki writing though...although I am hardly a Disgaea expert. Just too many formulas and calculations for me to know them all for that game...

I've played Tactics half a dozen times but I still need to refer/remind myself of how to get Cloud and access the secret areas everytime I play that game...and yes I refresh my memory on how to beat Elmdore and the assassins so I don't waste time or miss something.....
I guess I think of an expert as someone who can play the game all the way through sucessfully without having to refer to any faqs...although they may have written one..they know the game by heart as it were...
So I guess I don't qualify as an expert in any FF game..lol...

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

Based on name alone I would guess that people with things like FF master or Final Fantasy Expert in their name are people that don't qualify. Wisdom sights that if one assumes they know everything, you shall find them lacking some knowledge.

Knowledge is often the most obscure and diverse aspect of our existence. Pick your pleasure my friend. Know the battle and how it has evolved. Know the music and how your heart soars. Know the words that weave together the fabric of their stories. Know what it is like to share that with someone else. That truly is the knowledge of an expert.

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

well this guy calls himself FFXII Grandmaster and has played the game..FFXII several different ways, posted videos on youtube..and was the leader of a group of FF XII fans that started their own FFXII worship site..I use the term worship because they believe FFXII is the best FF game ever made..something I highly disagree with...
I don't diss the guy I just don't agree with his views/opinions about the game..but I would call him an expert...

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

An FF expert would usually be someone who's completed the game about 5-10 times or so.

The person doesn't need to know like, loads of obscure questions about the game, just be able to tell you about the secrets and all the rest of the side quests in the game.

If i had to be an expert in any FF game, it'd be VII, i've beat it so many times it makes me wonder how i even have a life

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

I was under the impression that FF expert is not specific to a single game. It is much easier to be an expert on a single game. It is also unclear what information is useful and what is unneeded. To answer questions like an expert, you need to be very comfortable with the game, but don't need to know every specific detail. Those details are for the enjoyment of the player and don't need an expert to flood the player with extra details.

Bottom line: When someone asks a question, who is best qualified to answer it? How will this answer help the person who asks the question? If that doesn't tell you who is an expert, then nothing will.

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

I would probably say I am a FFX expert, but that is because I have played through the main storyline well over 40 times, done all the side quests, have a fair knowledge of the more complex battle mechanics and formulas. Done dozens of challenges, and know the best strategy for just about every battle in the game.

I don't play much at all now though, so I've probably lost some of it.

------------------

I would also say I am an expert on FFVII, FFVI, and FFVII: Crisis Core. However, I don't use the term expert lightly, as stated above, many playthroughs, challenges, and perfect games.

True, I think it would be difficult to be an expert in all FF games...simply too much info to retain....
I know Split for example has written faqs for several games...I wonder though if he could play any of those early games he wrote faqs for without refering back to a faq and find/do everything in it...and just play from memory.I would tend to doubt it.

re: What makes someone an FF expert ?

I wouldn't call someone who memorises formulae and how to break the RNGs an expert (which can be done in all FFs apart from VII -> XI, IIRC. Yes, XII is breakable in the international version. I've done it a few times myself).

I would, however, consider someone who knows the games (both main and Gaiden) well, and knows little tidbits of info that are given ingame that most people pass over without a second thought. If you only know it via Ultimania, you are NOT an expert.

Pretty much me for FF12, 10, 7, 8, 9. Although the last two not nearly as many times at the first 3. 7 would be my most played game out of them and mostly my first. So I pretty much know alot about that game then the others.

Expert on FF would probably be someone who played all of them at least once who did everything. Though people playing it multiple times has more knowledge cause you might miss information on your first playthrough. Its like reading a book or listening to a tape, the more you play it, listen to it or read it, the more you know.
