re: Final Fantasy News
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
It's something most PS3 and FFXIII fan have been hoping for, but have yet to hear about it... well it seems the tide has turned and we may very well have gotten some exclusivity news about FFXIII, here's a quote, courtesy of FF-XIII.net
Kitase: The Blue-Ray's disc space and the PS3 HDD's standards has helped us a lot in terminating (mostly, if not absolutely) loading times. Kitase: Just like how 7 was a huge improvement from 6, the improvement between 12 and 13 may be big too.
Nomura: Our programmers were asking, "is it okay if we program it as a PS3 exclusive? If you're thinking of porting it to other consoles, we might have to change the specs to follow suit the others." And I answered, "PS3 exclusive, of course." Nomura: The staff just showed me how it looks to fly with an airship while in the World Map. It's been awhile since I last saw something "FF-ish". Nomura: We haven't announced who else are in the Versus team, but we've got some big names.
MTV in Japan has begun airing the new version of "Theme of Love"
This is kinda old, but no one posted it, so....
The latest Dengeki Playstation has announced that Square Enix will be releasing a new concept visual book on December 14th 2007, at the price of 2,625 yen. Title of the book is "CLOUD"? The book will be published by Media Works.
It will feature many of Square Enix's games, especially FFVII and FFXIII, and including Subarashiki Kono Sekai and Kingdom Hearts, in a very unique way and also includes interviews with the Japanese voice actors of the main characters from Crisis Core FFVII.
The special DVD that comes with the book will also include the promotional movies for FFXIII, FF Versus XIII and FFVII Advent Children Complete.
Dragon Quest Monsters Battle Road (arcade): Game will be playable at 100 yen per play. No limited edition cards are planned. A tournament will be held for elementary school kids on the 22nd and kid/parent pairs on the 23rd.
Dragon Quest IV (NDS): Special data to be distributed to those with DS systems and a copy of the game. Make sure you've advanced to the 5th chapter.
Final Fantasy IV (NDS): Playable
Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (WII): Video-only.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (WII WARE): Video-only
Final Fantasy Dissidia (PSP): New trailer in Closed Mega Theater
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (NDS): New trailer in Closed Mega Theater
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep (PSP): New trailer in Closed Mega Theater
Kingdom Hearts Coded (Mobile): New trailer in Closed Mega Theater
Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII (PS3/Mobile): New trailers in Closed Mega Theater
Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete (Blu-ray): Video in Closed Mega Theater
Star Ocean First Departure (PSP): Video-only
Front Mission 2089 Border of Madness (NDS): Video-only
Not to shabby - but another closed Mega-Theatre is a little annoying. I'm hoping that this new CLOUD book will include the trailers from TGS
Contents of the CLOUD DVD The contents of the bonus DVD coming with the upcoming Square-Enix visual arts collection book, CLOUD vol. 1, have been revealed.

Mobile Exclusive sequel to Final Fantasy IV announced
quote
Square Enix of Japan has officially unveiled Final Fantasy IV The After - Return to the Moon. The game will be available for Mobile Phones in February of 2008 for NTT DoCoMo (FOMA 903i and up) and in Spring for AU (includes Win Brew models). The game follows Theodore, a young blood descendant of Cecil, after the end of Final Fantasy IV. The game will be exclusive for mobile phones.
This years Final Fantasy XIII Jump Festa trailer was shown today (in the Closed Mega Theatre) and is once again an extension of all previous FFXIII trailers featuring new scenes mixed in with old ones. Thanks to FF&KH Blog we have a brief summary of what happens in Final Fantasy XIII's newest trailer. The translation is quite poor so some details may be updated.
This time, the trailer features a new song. The train scene from the E3 2006 and CLOUD DVD is extended. The scene with the Blonde man on the motorcycle is extended to show him summoning Shiva. The Pig tailed girl from the TGS trailer in September appears in this trailer. She's described as not looking human and uses a harp. From their trailer report, FF&KH Blog believe she summons Carbuncle (the GF from FFVIII). After the Final Fantasy XIII logo appears, an "Only for Playstation 3" message is displayed.
The Radio conversation in The Prince's car (cut from the CLOUD DVD trailer) speaks of an ending cold war. The Prince sees the "Skirt Girl". [See characters page] "Large" men in black suits are sat around a long table in a "Silver Cathedral" discussing the cold war/current events. (?) The "Staircase" fight scene from previous trailers is shown. When The Prince walks back inside (At the end of the CLOUD DVD Trailer) he is "ambushed" by the White Cloaked man. The city changes to daytime in which it seems more medieval (?) The "Skirt Girl", who seems to be the heroine, is seen having a conversation with The Shotgun Guy while walking down the street. After their brief conversation the two new characters appear. One of them is rather large (Kanae refers his size to "Mr. 33cm" from Final Fantasy XIII) and another who is dressed much like one of the Turks from Final Fantasy VII. The Shotgun Guy laughs mockingly at them. (?) The Prince's car is shown driving through the "wilderness"? Perhaps the baron desert area Nomura has spoken of.
*I can't understand this part of the translation*
- Wilderness scene of the car again. - The car over when young and blond heroine Falls - The main character is the right of the driver's seat of the car, the young man is descended from the left side. - Youth is always strict gun shoulder. - Information is flooding the road and not go on air. - Submerged roads, and the two look at the way forward. - (Both "preposterous to me," rather than the scene he sees a good feeling did)
All the characters appear to be in the car with The Prince. A continuation of the "White Robed Man" confrontation scene. The long table discussion scene is also continued to show another man entering, causing everyone in the room to look over and stop talking (?) The scene of The Prince fighting the soldiers is continued. A building is destroyed (?) reminds Kanae of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. A scene between the Skirt Girl and The Prince is shown. Kanae is not sure if they behave like best friends or lovers. Blue and Red symbols appear behind The Prince and the Skirt Girl respectively. They look angry at each other, the Skirt Girl unsheathes a sword, the camera pans to her face to show her purple eyes and the Final Fantasy Versus XIII logo is shown, along with a Shakespeare quote shortly after.
Will try to update if a better summary is found since some of the information has yet to be translated properly
Cruxis Mana posted up these pics a while back, but websites have been starting to say that these artworks are (possibly) the official concept arts. Finalfantasy-xiii.net aren't 100% sure if it's official or not, but it's always nice to have something new to talk about, so ...
Prince
The Driver and Scar-Faced guy
New character
It certainly doesn't look like Nomura's artwork.
I'm loathing the "Advent Children-style" outfits that the Prince and "New character" are wearing. Give us something new, Nomura! I miss the days when characters had interesting and colorful outfits. Not just black leather and belts (though Squall's was quite original back in the day).

Some FFXIII and Versus XIII info, from FF-XIII.net:
quote
As part of Famitsu's 1000th Issue Celebration Project, Square Enix Legend, Tetsuya Nomura was invited to draw the 1001th issue's cover. Nomura became the first game creator to draw the cover artwork for the magazine. Inside this issue, they also interviewed him and revealed some information regarding Lightning's character design in Final Fantasy XIII as well as some information about the Prince from Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
- While designing Final Fantasy VII, they were indecisive about how spiky to make Cloud's hair. - Since people are more used to the beautiful CGs of FF characters, Nomura prefers his own artworks to not be shown out in the open too often and thinks that the Final Fantasy illustrations done by Yoshitaka Amano are what people prefer to see. - Normally draws with just a mechanical pencil, then scans and digitally colours his artworks. - Buys games based on Famitsu reviews.
- Lightning from FF XIII: Has muscular legs, she isn't sweet, strict to herself and to others, and doesn't like whiners. She is quite like a military soldier. - FFXIII scenario writer, Motomu Toriyama wanted her to be more muscular and macho, but Nomura thought people wouldn't be fond of her as a main character if he designed her that way. - Aya (Aya Brea from PE3) is a bid more rounded than Lightning.
- Versus 13 heroes' clothes will probably be revised. - Versus 13 main character is unlike Cloud nor Squall as people are expecting. Everyone's impression on him will greatly change once they hear him speak. Many people may not like him. - His name will be related to weather just like Lightning, but personally Nomura has gotten bored of this naming tradition. - The next time they reveal new Versus 13 info, they will reveal the main character's name.
- Agito characters are being called after their weapons between the development staff members, like how the boy with the cards is known as "Card-kun". The girl with glasses is being called "Class President" just because of her image, though.
This means that the official list of playable characters comes to :
quote
· Final Fantasy - Warrior of Light, Garland · Final Fantasy II - Firion, Emperor Palemecia · Final Fantasy III - Cloud of Darkness (New) · Final Fantasy IV - Golbez (New) · Final Fantasy V - Exdeath (New) · Final Fantasy VI - Kefka (New) · Final Fantasy VII - Sephiroth · Final Fantasy VIII - Squall, Ultemecia · Final Fantasy IX - Zidane, Kuja · Final Fantasy X - Tidus, Jecht (New)
while not entirely Final Fantasy related....it involves Square-enix and for those in America
quote PS3fanboy
Square Enix is finally reaching out to its fans with a brand new community web site. The new site will be specifically for North American users and should parallel the experience offered to Square Enix's large Japanese fan community. The site promises to feature "exclusive content," such as interviews with developers, downloadable content, sweepstakes and trailers. We're hopeful that brand new trailers for upcoming PS3 games, like Final Fantasy XIII, will find their way into the site.
You can visit the site here. Register today and you'll be able to access the full site when it officially launches next week: March 24th.
