How do I go through the 50 star door back-jumping fast? I keep doing it, but it never works. It only worked once so far. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

It is hard to do. My way of doing it is the following:
Run up the stairs and then down again in order to get the camera behind you. I don't know why but this helped me the first times I tried. Stand on the last step - Mario's nose should point away from the stairs - and do a long jump forward, but hold the "direction stick" backwards, so that it is not really a long jump, but a "short" long jump. Keep holding it backwards and jump again when you land.
Now comes the hard part. Do not press A at the precise moment you land, but rather a split second after you've landed. At that point, do not simply press A once, but continuously. The timing is the key. If you time it right, Mario should start accelerating up the stairs with incredible speed.

If you miss the door, that's too sad. Try again, then.

You probably won't succeed the first time, but don't give up. Hope this helps you.

Might try it, if its on the DS version. I'm not hooking up my N64 tho. I tried playing Banjo-Tooie and it wouldn't work, took me 10 minutes. God i hate that i can't play those old games. Thank god their making them on the Wii.

Nintendo did a 'touching up' on the old games, so I don't think there will be the glitch there.

I've played my N64 so much lately, it works fine

Maybe thats why they don't have many N64 games so far. Dam it!
