STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

I am having trouble on the mission where you finally disable Stonehenge, and , no matter what, an enemy plane always shoots me down, or I end up nosing in. Should I, after destroying the AA guns, either a.) go for the airfield near Stonehenge and destroy the planes or b.) get a better aircraft? The plane I used on this mission the first time I played was an EF-200.

Go up to 20,000 feet, get bombs, not missiles, the bombs that make a 90 degree turn into the target. You know the ones? And divebomb that bitch, machine gun blazin, missiles firing, and bombs flying. You'll win XD.

Oh yeah. F/A-18C. works like a charm.

Edit: LASM bombs.

GA Mobius here,

I've given this problem some thought, and I actually have been shot down a few times, but, on the flipside, I have managed to avoid the blast. I'm taking a wild guess a this, Ace Flyer, but I think that you meant the UGBM's, because, I do not recall there being a LASM-type bomb in the game, unless you meant a PGB or some other "smart" munition.

GA Mobius out.

No No No No.

R-M01 that sucker with the SOD or SDD whatever they're called. Fly in tight to the cannon and just go nice and slow in a circle, take out each cannon with one SDD, then jettison the rest and use your missiles to take out the Yellows.

Just some random unguided bomb works, its been a while since I played though, so I can't remember the names of all the bombs.

But use like a unguided bomb and go WWII style and divebomb dat bitch!

EDIT: Do you mean taking out the cannons or the radar-thingy in the middle you destroy last?... or first.. its been a while..

re: STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

In respone to the last post,

I guess I didn't specify. I take out the jammer FIRST, then take out the guns. And whoever contributed the dive-bombing idea, thank you very much because not only does it work, when I'm above 2000, they can't seem to hit me, which is of course, a good thing. Now I;m having difficulty taking the SAM sites. No matter where I attack from , up high or down low, they manage to hit me. Any tips?

XD that was my divebomb idea. I used it in alot of missions. I use it in AC05 still. Don't have Zero yet, unfortunatly.

And to kill the SAM sites, don't fly in a straight line. Fly a swiervey line, like so:

\
/
\
/
\

And when you get the missile alert, hit the thrusters and cut right/left and go as fast a possible.

re: STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

I find the fastest way to complete this mission is to fly in fast, taking out the few anti-aircraft weapons on the way there. Then take out the jammer. Then fly far from Stonehenge so you aren't over it's circular area on the map. Pull in and fly in a wide circle around Stonehenge taking out all SAMS first. If you can take out AA's without messing up the circle, do so. Once all the SAMS are downed, fly a tighter circle and take out the AA guns. Once the AAs and SAMS are down, fly low (out of Stonehenge target range) and while maintaining a direct circle that takes you over every cannon, fire your guided/unguided bombs or LASM/LAGMS at the base of each cannon. Widest target point, and bombs (with their damage area) can hit multiple target points on the cannon if fired near the center of the base, or between any two points (aiming for the barrel isn't recommended).

Leave one gun alive, and take care of any jets in the sky. I'd advice keeping Afterburn on for this part of the mission, as that one gun can still get lucky and pick you out of the sky. Speeding makes you harder to hit.

re: STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

If you're pretty good with the game then really any aircraft will work on taking out Stonehenge.

The way I conduct the mission I usually use the F-14A or any aircraft with XLAAs or XMAAs. I begin my egress into the target area by straffing the two AAA batteries that you encounter, then do the same with the first SAM battery you spot. Its tricky because you got to know when to flinch and straffing AAA guns and SAM batteries saves missiles for other bigger and better tagets.

Next I fly in as low as possible avoding and in coming missile and gun fire and again using my guns, straff the jammer or fire a standard missile unguided (meaning no target lock-on) to take it out.

Next I switch over to my SP Air-to-Air missiles and fly in behind the three aircraft traking0off from the airfield and knock them out quickly. Then if feasable, again use my guns to straff outer SAM batteries. I leave at least one of the SAM batteries along with all of the tripple-A guns deffending the Stonehenge batteries i leave alone and go for the enemy fighters.

Once I down all of the enemy fighters protecting the Stonehenge complex, I then go after the enemy F-2A Ace to the North to Northwest of the facility. Then after doing him in I return to the complext and proceed to destroy the remain Sam battery and AAA guns along with the Stonehenge batteries themself. Pretty much here I use a combo of Standard missiles or gun fire to take'em out. Then its just a matter of dealing with the Yellows once the mission update is given.

Here it gets tricky because I do my best for a quick head-on kill to end the mission quickly as possible. Its not exactly easy because sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you dont. However in the end its up to you, your aircraft of choice and what ever tactics you employ is the answer to success with this and all other missions of the game.

re: STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

Well for me I usually blaze in (riding a Tomcat since that's
my favourite steed) and kill the SAM and AA targets that run
up to Stonhenge, I then set up a fast circut of the installation
taking out the SAM and AA batterys that surround the facility.
Then I'll geneerally take out all but 2 of the Stonehenge rail guns
still in the same circut (circle pattern) and then I'll leave
that to go kill the airplane targets.
Done with them, I'll head back and kill the other two guns that
I've left behind and then go kill Yellow 4 (poor girl)

re: STONEHENGE OFENSIVE on Normal

Start the mission, there are two AA guns along the way, decent to about 1000ft, close distance and kill them, then climb, 3000ft will do, watch your radar, when you are right over the missle of stone henge, pull stright up to a 90 degree climb, and slow down till you stall. then destroy the radar jammer in the middle of Stonehenge by just aiming at is with missiles, they wont be guided, but oh well. Then circle around the outside of Stonehenge and destroy all of the SAMs, theoredically since they are all in a circle, and you are flying in a circle, it should only take one loop. Then move inside the Stonehenge emplacement, and fly in another circle destroying all the AAs, again, this should only take one loop. you now like like, 10 minutes left on the game timer, so blow up the planes flying around, fly north if you want and blow up the enemy ace, then fly back to Stonehenge and blow up all except one cannon. Go back to base, switch to Air to Air missiles if you don't have them already, blow up the last cannon, then kill the yellows and grats. Miission complete.
