1.4 Tbird

I need someone to tell me what is the absolute max Temp range for 1.4 tbird.

Mine runs at 59C. and up to about 63C. in use.
I'm not sure it that's too high as I have never had a processor that ran this hot.
I had an AMD 800 and of course never had to worry.
I feel this temperature is a little on the high side and am reluctant to leave it running at this temperature.
I am used to leaving my computer on most of the day but will not until I can get the temp down

Help!!!!!

re: 1.4 Tbird

That's a bit toasty. Do you have a good HSF on your CPU and do you have case fans? You should have a front intake fan and a back exhaust fan just below your power supply.

re: 1.4 Tbird

Yes 59C/63C is rather warm, but what motherboard do you have? I have the Asus A7A-266 and I was reading over 60C full load, but that is because my motherboard has compensation built in. If you have a HSF that is sufficient to cool your processor, but it still reads high, its just your motherboard, it may not actually be running any hotter than normal. With a 1.4 T-bird you definitely need intake and exhaust case fans along with a nice HSF on your processor.

re: 1.4 Tbird

I have an Athlon XP 1600+(1.4GHz) with a Cooler Master DP5-6131C HSF(supports upto 1900+). The reading I get from my Asus A7V266-E is round about 58C. If you are using Asus motherboard as well, then you will most likely get 5-8C error as this is always the case with Asus motherboard. My old PIII 550MHz with Intel retail HSF ran at 39C on Asus CUSL2. But if you have watched the THG movie, you will know that PIII will halt itself if the thermal diode detects temperature higher than 34C. So if mine ran at 39C, then the system would not even respond, but it worked fine. Therefore I can definitely tell you that Asus motherboards don't give correct CPU temperature reading and the error is quite large.

re: 1.4 Tbird

Motherboard Monitor reports my ECS K7S5A running about 4-5 degrees hotter than my Iwill KK266 with everything else as close to the same as I can make it. Same effect for both T'bird 1.4 and Duron 800 (although different temps, as you might imagine). I'm guessing it's just differences in sensor placement or something like that.

Personally, I get nervous when temps get into the upper 40s C, so 59 sounds scary to me even if your board has a "known" overread.

I've found an 80mm fan with an 80-to-60mm adapter helpful in reducing temps without killing my ears. Also a case fan mounted in the side panel blowing down on the HSF is worth 4-5 degrees. (Yes, cut a hole in the side panel).

re: 1.4 Tbird

The Tbird should be able to with withstand temps up to 90-95C. I wouldn't run at a temp above 70 for any length of time though. I would speculate the CPU life would be cut pretty short.

re: 1.4 Tbird

While I used CPUidle successfully a few years ago (on older AMDs) it gave me zero improvement with the ECS mobo with either Duron or Athlon CPUs.

I had success tweaking with WPCREDIT on my Iwill mobo (VIA 133a), but it also produced occassional lockups. I don't know if it's been updated to handle the newer chipsets.

re: 1.4 Tbird

Using a Jetway 663ASPRO board and a 1.4 Tbird It is running about 45C. I am using a Vantec 6035D Heatsink and have a 450W power supply w 2 fans as well as a front fan a rear fan and a fan blowing through the l side directly on the CPU heatsink. I suggest nothing less than this. the Tbird 1.4 is the fastest of the Tbirds and needs extra help with cooling.

re: 1.4 Tbird

i'm running an Athlon tb 1.4 GHz on an MSI k7t266 pro 2.
My idle temps are 47(CPU) 40(case)
My load temps are 53(CPU) 46(case)
I'm using a globalwin sak38 with the 7000 rpm for cooling.
no case fans and the side panel is left off.
Are my temps normal ?

re: 1.4 Tbird

I have an AMD 1.4 GHz, the last model before the XP line of processors, on an ECS K7S5A.

I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 5 as the cooler (installed by the clone dealer), and I have a rear system fan installed and the side of my case is always left open.
I use SpeedFan 4.05 to measure my temps and they match those of the Bios temp. So I know that SpeedFan is reliable.
My idle temp is 60 deg C, and on full load, 100%, of the CPU (ie. MPEG 4 and DivX encoding) my temperature has gone up as high as 74 deg C (72 C sustained). I was thinking about changing the cooler to a Coolermaster DP5-6I31C, and adding Artic Silver if there is not already some there. Does anyone have any comments on this cooler, would it give me lower temps? Any other suggestions for lowering my temperature?

re: 1.4 Tbird

I can't seem to find it on their product page at all.

http://www.coolermaster.com.hk/en/products/cooler/main.html

Usually if it cools at a higher rating than what you're running then you should be on the safe side. Most that I install these days are the Volcano 7 and 7+ series. the 7 isn't all that bad for noise and it cools pretty well.

Hi
Go to this address:
http://www.heatsink-guide.com

And then goto Max CPU Operation Temperatures section, you'll find a rich and accurate resource of datas you are looking for.

Take care, Farshad

re: 1.4 Tbird overheat

I have been having overheating issues with my 1.4 Thunderbird. I had problems with games freezing ever since I had replaced my GForce2 for a GForce4 card, and now even more with my Radeon 9800 Pro. My idle cpu temp is 48 C (with the side case off) and around 51-52 C when loaded. I have an 80 mm thermaltake outtake fan but there's no hole for an intake. I don't know how high it gets when I attempt to run a high-end game but it has to be at least 60 C. Additionally, there's this high pitched noise present at all times that gets higher when the CPU is calculating stuff...even with the slightest mouse-scroll! Is my "good 'ole" Thunderbird malfunctioning? For now, even playing The Sims 2 is a far off dream! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

re: 1.4 Tbird

i'm not an expert, but i built my own pc 5 years ago with a thunderbird 1.4ghz processer and a cheapo $10 fan. For the past 5 years, 60-65 celcius has been about average (shit, it's 67 at the mo).
But it's worked fine for 5 years. altho in the last few weeks i've been having a lot of crashes, and yesterday my cpu was over 85 degrees celcius (it was probably a lot more because my pc crashed, wouldn't start, so i let it cool for a few seconds, turned on, accessed bios and it was 85).

i'm not bothered tho...u can buy replacement tbirds on ebay for like less than $10.

here's a funny story:
i remeber one time about 3 years ago when i upgraded to a "silent" fan, and after installing it, i accidentally left a loose power wire stuck in the fan (so it cudn't spin). When i turned it on my computer was virtually silent..i was like "wow, that's one silent fan". Then it kept crashing so i checked the fan and realised it was blocked, so I removed the wire, turned it back on, and the fan wasn't really that quite at all. disappointing.
