Running Low On Ram???????

I have a 1.4 266 athalon with 256megs of DDR ram and a Gigabyte 7dxr. I keep running low on physical memory even though i dont have much running. Right now im at 56 megs. I have been as low as 40kb . What the hell is going on? Can anyone help? Is this a heat problem? My temps average 60c. Thanks

re: Running Low On Ram???????

That's not a big problem. Being low on physical ram doesn't have much adverse effect on performance from my experience.

What you have to worry about, if you use any of the Windows 9X OSes, is running out of GDI and User memory. But no matter how much RAM you buy you won't be able to avoid that problem, since Windows allocates a fixed amount of memory for the GDI and User spaces. sigh.

Upgrade to Win2K or WinXP if you are having GDI/User problems .

re: Running Low On Ram???????

This may not be your problem but when I run certain programs they have a tendency to completely drain all of my ram. One program which does this a LOT is MAME. MAME is an emulator for arcade games, so it could be an emulator thing.
Chances are, this isn't your problem, but I figured that it was worth saying.
