1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

I have a 1.33GH, and the ASUS software is showing 60--67c temp. From what I read till now, it is concerning me, even though AMD tech support told me the max temp is 90. They didn't seem to be worried about that temperature for that cpu. Any input?

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

I have also installed an AMD Athlon 1.33 266 fsb
i get around 45-50c this doesnt matter whether its idle
or under stess it doesnt seem to go higher.
Is the reading you get from the bios or siv157 as i find
the bios reading is always few degrees lower.
I have a thermalright sk6 with 26CFM YS-TECH FD6025 Fan(dont think i could stand the noise from the delta fan
)and used artic silver II.
What cooler do you use and did you use thermal compound?

Actually don't know what type of heatsink I have, and no thermal unit been used I am sure. Don't have a BIOS reading unless u mean motherboard temperature?

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

i got the 1333 on msi board 266 fsb
elsa gladiac 920 geforce3
pretty much the best for the best price

under w98se it is running with 65c and under gaming w/ 69c
(that concerns me a little bit)

now under w2k it's constantly running with 56c
no idea why but i would like to know

i installed pc alert III (with msi utilities)
that has a feature to regulate the fan and a software cooling (what's that - but it works a little bit - or i would have about 71c)

now i don't know why it's running so hot - i guess i got to check my fan

any ideas how high you can go at all - wasn't it about 100c?????

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

ok, I for one thought it was 56celcius ish, if amd told you 90 then...well I'm not so sure anymore=P I always get 45 or under and thats still way above 100 farenheit so they certainly arn't talking about farenheit either...anyone confirm this with good hard evidence? I'd be interested:colored:

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

Check the AMD site. Look in the tech docs section and download the PDF for the AMD processor model 4 (Athlon).

You'll see that the nax die temp for CPUs over 1.2G is 95C, lower Athlons it is 90C. The die temp is the temp read from the surface of the top of the CPU. I'm not sure how much lower of a reading you get from measuring the bottom of the CPU or inside of the middle of the heatsink. Personally I wouldn't push it over 80, just to be safe.

I've been trying to figure out why my CPU gets so f'in hot. I run at 68C idle (with CPUCool on), and 82C in games. I think my monitors measure a few degrees too high but my case gets too hot to touch! With the case off I get about 5C less... I have an all copper heatsink and I'm using artic silver II compound. My previous $6 heatsink didn't make it much hotter though... I tried the sk-6 and termaltake fan with arctic silver II my friend had and brought it to 57C idle with case and power supply off and an 80mm case fan we were holding, blowing air around the CPU.

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

Looking around this forum, you kind of get the feeling that there are temperature problems with the faster athlons. Also there is a great deal of variability between different setups.

I would steer away from the top end. Anything approaching 90-95C is too high. These are the max temps but they should only be hit for a short time. Also I suspect AMD have used a bit of marketting here. The high temperature may be lower.

My advice is to stick below 60C for a non-overclocked cpu. If your HSF are such that you are less than 50C then good for you. But honestly it probably isn't worth losing sleep over if your below 60C.

Must go, graveyards to check out, you know.

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

I have installed an AMD Athlon 1.2 266 fsb
and Thermaltake Mini Super Orb on it.
I get around 70 C even if iddle.
I think that temperature sensor is lying.
Even that I am worried about that temperature too.
For now it is working very well - without crashes etc.

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

If my 1.33 gets above 42 celsius, I get nervous....Man I got this thing Overclocked to 1.53 ghz and it STILL never gets above 41 celsius with Air Cooling. I think AMD is smoking something if they think their CPU's are stable at 90 celsius....

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

There is definitely a problem with Athlon temps depending on setups. I have a 1.2 running at 900mhz (another thread...) and i get about 55C (128-140F). That is on my A7M266 mobo btw. My cousin is running the same processor (at 1.2 though) on a kt7a board and he is consistently running at temperatures of 95-110F. I'm not sure if he's *bleep* and telling me his mobo temp or something, but there is deffo a problem w/ athlon (at least the t-birds that I've seen).

Pls mail me w/ and tips you might have - HOFAJ@rhodes.edu

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

I have got a MSI Pro266 with an AMD Athlon thunderbird 1GHz (FSB266MHz). The temperature is around 50°C without the case, and 60°C with it.

Is it a typical temperature, or do I have to worry about it ? (my wife for sure would not appreciate that the computer blow up...)

Thanks for your help,

Loïc

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

Hey Loic,

You need to improve your case cooling. Try tidying up the cabling inside. If you can, fit another fan at the back of the case to blow hot air out of your case. There may be a grided vent with four screw holes surrounding it. Put the fan there.

Good look.

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

Hey Guest,

Are you sure you seated the HSF on the cpu properly. It is not unknown for one to get a better "seating" by removing and re-fitting the HSF. You will need to remove/re-apply your chosen thermal grease/paste etc. e.g. Arctic Silver II.
If you used a "thermal pad" or TIM, then you must not re-apply the HSF without (a) cleaning off the TIM, and (b) adding thermal paste.

I think you might see an improvement.

Good look.

re: 1.33 GH AMD cpu temperature

Hey Doubt,

I have been reading a lot here lately about Asus boards and they seem to be showing high CPU temps with Athlons. Although Asus has not officially released any info on this, it has been going around in these forums about high temps on a lot os Asus boards.
What Temp Monitor Are you using? Try using Motherboard Monitor 5 .http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

I have a buddy that callled me to help him set up his new Asus A7A266. The first thing I noticed was in the bios it read the Cpu temp. as 55 celsius. I told him to go out and get a better HSF and call me back(sound like a Doctor). He was using a Cheap Coolermaster. AMD approved, but really not up to snuff.

Mike
