Favorite Spyro Generation

For those of you who don't know, generations are usually classified as follows:
  • Insomniac Games (Spyro 1-3)
  • Universal (GBA Games and Enter the Dragonfly
  • A Hero's Tail
  • Shadow Legacy
  • Krome Studios (Legend of Spyro trilogy)
My opinion: You can't beat the originals. With the exception of Enter the Dragonfly, which should be next to last, the games have gradually gotten worse and worse.

re: Favorite Spyro Generation

Ive only played Spyro 1, 2 and a Hero's Tail.

The first generation games were awesome, but A Hero's Tail was just as good IMO. I can't really decide which was my favourite.

Probably 1 > Hero's Tail > 2. Its pretty close though.

I'd say in that same order.

    Insomniac
    Universal (GBA)
    Eurocom (Hero's Tail)
    Universal (Enter the Dragonfly)
    Krome Studios

ETD was too short and had way too many glitches, but the Legend of Spyro series was still ten times worse.

Insomniac games, of course. All the rest suck in my opinion. I did like Season of Ice and Flame for the GBA though.

I thought they were really fun (though chasing thieves was a pain at times). It's just collecting what you have to, along with gems. Some Sparx levels and flight levels too.

So its kinda like the Insomniac spyro games mixed with the sidequests of A Hero's Tail?

Kinda like Spyro 2, except harder to control and less easier to find the gems, at least imo.

ok, might have to "obtain" one one day. =] Try it out, sounds pretty good.

What about the newer ones, just utter crap? or fairly decent?

They were my favourites.

It all depends on what you like in a game. I personally don't care for them much because they're much more story-oriented than actual gameplay, if you can call button-mashing gameplay.

They're annoyingly linear (meaning you complete levels in a preset order), and they don't have any sidequests or collectibles. The one plus is that the storyline is one of the most developed I've ever seen in a game. If you're a fan of shippings, you'll probably enjoy it no matter what you think of the gameplay.

As for the GBA games, they were entertaining for awhile. The first two, Season of Ice and Season of Flame, were more like the Insomniac days than anything, while Attack of the Rhynocs was a little like AHT but more like it's own style than anything else.

Hm? What's wrong with the US version of YoTD? I thought both versions were identical.

It's all buggy. You lose collected eggs as a surprise, you never get all gems in levels (Except first world) and al that sutff.

re: Favorite Spyro Generation

That's not true; maybe your particular copy is just glitchy. I have the US version, and I've completed it to 119% without any issues of the sort.
